Hi all
Will be driving form
Cooma to
Batemans Bay Monday 17th, wanting to avoid the bitumen but not wanting anything low range, so I was thinking of a route via
Numeralla and Nerrigundah, or
Numeralla to Cobargo..
If I had more time and was travelling with other vehicles, we would head straight to
Bendethera Valley, but as we will have the Prado loaded to the gunwales with kids and bikes etc and we are not looking at spending all day in the car doing endless low range climbs etc..
Has anyone travelled these roads recently? Are they suitable for a basically standard Prado shod with A/T's with only about 40% tread remaining? (I know, I know...new tyres are coming just as soon as we get Christmas and this holiday paid off the Visa..) Any river crossings or long climbs/descents that will have the wife cursing me for not taking the bitumen?
Thanks in advance
Richard

Hey Richard,
We took the scenic dirt from
Cooma thru Captains Flat to Braidwood on our way to
Batemans Bay a few years back. Nothing too scary there....but with only 40% tread and all this rain, I reckon the road will be very slippery - and mobile coverage is very sketchy.
Is the view or off road experience worth risking your loved ones lives and safety for? Save it for another day - one with dry weather and a better prepared vehicle.

Richie,
won't Brown Mountain provide you with enough excitement and
views... especially wet?

PS.
don't forget the great pies and cakes etc at Bemboka (I trust they are still there... it's been awhile since I was there)

Ah some good advice..maybe the bitumen is the way to go..perhaps I was getting excited as we hardly get off road these days AND the day in question is my birthday..but discretion is the better part of valour so they say!
Thanks all!!

The road from Numerrella to Cobargo gets very slippery in the wet and can get chewed up if trailbikes have gone through recently. This is a one lane track and gets very narrow going over the mountains especially at
the gap ( cant think of the correct name at the moment) From memeory there are 2 water crossings plus a conctete bridge.
