Ok, i know this question was asked on here about 2 years ago but i am pretty sure no difinitive answer was able to be given. Aparently there is a track that runs between the Srtzelecki Trk and the road that runs from Merty Merty to Cameron Cnr, however the best i can find is a trk that starts at -28° 56' 36.68", +140° 7' 1.53 and runs parallel to the Strzelecki Ck up to Merty Merty. The one im thinking of runs almost directly E to W cutting out that whole loop north and south again.

Would really appreciate it if anyone has co-ordinates or a log file of this track they could share with me. I am planning on heading out there in August and if found and successfully navigated i will be uploading the trek file onto here for future reference.

Cheers,

Tony.

Hi Tony

Is this the track that you are talking about?

If it is, I have not had the chance to drive it yet (Was going to drive it last year but rain put an end to it) Google Earth makes is a very defined track to follow.

Cheers

Yes that's the shortcut from Bollard's Lagoon to the Strzelecki. Used it several times in Santos days and last drove it in 2009. Not a public road and not maintained of course. Can be confusing with side-tracks so keep an eye on your navigator. Some boggy sections when wet. Nothing special to see but can save some mileage.

Good info Allan, cheers. The mileage is a bonus but also keen on just getting off the beaten track and seeing something different. Thanks for that, hopefully by August a lot of that area would have dried out a bit.

Cheers.

TonBon

I drove this track in July, having been alerted to its existence by another traveller. It was reportedly less cut up on the wet weather than the main track.

When I drove it (in both directions - we stayed at Cameron Corner overnight) it was certainly in better condition than that part of the main track from the junction through to Cameron Corner. The report I was given indicated that there was some deep mud on the main track at that time.

To help you find it, its eastern end joins the main track at end at S28.81359 E140.26428. Its western end leaves the Strzelecki Track at S28.96764 E140.12902 (both waypoints taken from my GPS track). I'm sending you by email a copy of that track.

Cheers

Was it thread 67193 you were looking at? That shows a different version of the shortcut. I think there is another thread somewhere about this shortcut, but it may be hard to find now. There is definitely a road marked off the Cameron Corner road with "T-junction" signpost (don't have its location, sorry) but that won't help if you're coming from the other direction.

From the GPS data given in this thread, and a look on Google Earth, the shortcut as given on the map above by Stephen is correct, and the map given in post 67193 is not. Still not sure though which signpost marks the turnoff.

I drove that track 10 years ago, or probably more, I reckon. Have not driven it since.
Came past the Strzelecki end in November 2009 and it was signposted. I recall seeing a signpost at the other end at some time in the past too.
That HEMA map is the first time I have ever seen it on any map.

Cheers,
Peter

mmm my first post here, still fiddling but you need to turn off the merty merty / Camerons rd at the sign with no name and the red mudguard on it :)

The other end of the track is right next to the bridge with the best looking water under it i've seen for ages :)

I attempted this Track last August 2010 but got bogged not far into it:(
I only had enough fuel to make it to Arkaroola (going the merty way) so I bailed out of the unknown track and went with safety via merty :)

Yep. i would never have found it if it wasn't for the red mudguard, i did get tempted to turn at earlier tracks, which would have lead me knowhere and using fuel i needed, but relied on the good info i had at the time. Wish i could have done it, but oh well, next time if i'm alive long enough :)
