I am going to be putting a 3 inch exhaust system on my D22 and i want the whistle noise when i take my foot off the accelerator like Graham Cahill's GQ shorty on the 4wd action dvds. How do i do that? does it have to be complete straight through or have a cat or what?

Without turning this into a tech thread about turbo lag, back pressure drops, loss of performance, legalities and economy etc i'll simply say 'Yes" straight through exhaust will give you that noise.
Good luck!!

I know how to make a cat bark, making it whistle is another level of sophistication altogether.

Yeah good hi flow muffler with 3'' dump pipe. You will need a good quality cat also. Many 3 litre Patrols with 3'' exhausts sound good, with alot of whistle, but it can get very annoying after a couple of hours at highway speeds.

Well my straight thru Mandrel exhaust doesnt sing, whistle, bark or play tunes.
Maybe Im going faster than the sound LOL
Perhaps a 3" may be a bit big for a D22 a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 may be better.
Too big can be worse than too small.
Quietness is next to godliness when doing several hundred k's a day
May be I'm just getting to old ROFL

Not having a go at you Navara09, I know the exact sound your talking about as I have noticed it on a few patrols as
well and also the video you are referring to watched it myself, have actually noticed it on some trucks to while there going through their gear changes, my mate did it to his paper truck, sounds good while going through the gears but drove me mad while shooting down the freeway at 110k.
