Hi all
Thinking of leaving the van in
Carnarvon during a trip north in May and taking the tent out to
Kennedy Range & Mt Augustus. I know that there is a
camp ground at
Kennedy Range but I have a feeling that camping at Mt Augustus is no longer allowed.
Has anyone any recent
information on camping at or near Mt Augustus?
Many thanks
John

Burringurrah / Mt Augustus. Accommodation, powered caravan sites, camping facilities, meals, fuel and water are available at
Mount Augustus Outback Tourist Park, phone (08) 9943 0527 and
Cobra Bangemall Inn (08) 9943 0565.
The Mt Augustus Outback Tourist Park sounds very flashy but when you get there it is really basic and normally has (and nothing against backpackers) backpackers running it - they have no idea about the area etc.
No camping in the National Park.

must have changed a bit - when i went there I was served fuel and booked in by.............. a T.O bit of a rarity but she told m of her times as a girl using
the rock as a giant slipery slide during cyclonic rains and in acomplete 180 to the attitudes at Uluru asked me ifI enjoyed the climb and what I saw before sharing her experences

no reason you couldnt take the van - the roads are very good gravel although as a disclaimer the rain around there may have changed things since I went

I believe that the
shop and tavern at Mt Augustus Caravan Park have been closed down. When we were there in '08 the powered sites were nice and grassy, but I hear that may not be the case these days also. Cobra Station looked very tempting, but it's some 50k's from the mountain. I'd probably stay there next time around for something different. The roads are reasonably
well maintained. I agree with getoutmore, you could take the van if you take it nice and steady - slow down for the rocky sections, creek dips and livestock grids. It's a really nice place to visit for those who like the outback.
