Hi Guys: Have noticed on here a lot of people wanting to have vehicles moved a round the country for different reasons.Just talking to better half we were thinking if the person was willing to pay airfares to pick up vehicle and back home after delivery it would be a good way to see some of this country. Owner of vehicle would have to pay for fuel and may be a bit of accommodation. There would be no charge for delivering vehicle and compared to some of the transport costs I have seen it would be I think a cheaper alternative and it would be door to door. To the mod squad this not an advertisement but a alternative if I am wrong please remove.
Any comments appreciated .

I used to (30 years ago) drive Avis rentals from the drop-off city back to the home city, wait a few days and pick up another to return home again. No charge and I paid for fuel.
Then in the USA in the eighties, I located a car "ferrying" service which provided a similar service for car owners who have relocated or people buying cars from interstate. As a visiting tourist, I just showed my International driving License, paid a deposit ($200, from memory) and got to drive a Challenger from Denver across to Los Angeles. So long as I delivered it within the time limit (3 or 4 days) and in good condition, with th eright mileage (they allowed me a few hundred extra
miles for touring along the way), I got my deposit back. (I had to pay for petrol & accommodation, though).
I wonder if there's a commercial "ferrying" service here who uses volunteer drivers (tourists or backpackers) to provide a low-cost delivery service in exchange for the free use of the vehicle for a few days?
Concerns about Driving licenses, speed camera fines and Insurance aside, its not much different from those House-swapping websites where trust and convenience provide benefits to both parties.....

We couldn't do it with ours as the insurance only has two stated drivers. Us!. So the car would not be insured.
On the other side of the coin the "delivering" driver could be fully liable for all damages etc to anyone and anything. Regardless of whether he is in the right or wrong. I would like to read the insurance contract first.
What if the car was stolen and you are innocently "delivering" it to somewhere. You are in posession of stolen goods. Good luck. Who knows who all members of this
forum are. Would anyone here trust me with their pride and jopy. Even my wife has trouble and often "guides" me.
Tread carefully people.

Most hire car companies employ ferry drivers to do just that. Usually they are just retired people. Our Co pays for fuel and they get a set wage for ea job.And meal allow on longer jobs. It is great for people that have retired as they see some of the country and earn some extra income.
