Cape York

Hi, we are planning a trip to Cape York in May this year in our 4x4. We would like to find people with their own car to travel with. Can anyone suggest how we could find people?
Thanks

Hi guys, we'll be leaving Cooktown on the 29/4/11 for the Cape, will be back at Karumba on the 10/5/11 heading for NT and then the Kimberley, two vehicles both with C/Trailers. if that is any help. Cheers, Kanga.

Sorry if i put a spanner in the works my friends ,but the roads North of Laura may not be open for your trip . 2010 the roads opened on the 10th May and it looks like this year may be just a little bit later. You can never make plans around any dates as each year it changes , the best time to make plans for a trip to the Cape is late May early June or even July.

Keep an eye on the Cooktown Shire Web Site, on a dry year they open the National Park roads on the 1st of May but it is controled buy the weather. The Cooktown Shire control all the internal roads including the N/Ps up the Cape and the Main Roads control the main Development Road.

Gday everyone, i lived in Cannonvale Nth QLD and talkign from experience and lookign at the rainfall chart best bet would be june/july to do the trip cause that is when the least amount of rain is around. But also be careful because they have a few active cyclones cruising around that way and there might not be much of a track left so you may need to take a chainsaw with you when you go.

I travelled to Cape York on my own (with 4 kids) last year and all the way along people invited us to travel with them. You will have no problems at all finding someone who would enjoy your company when you get to Cairns or north of there. Just wait until you find someone whom you "click" with and you will have a great trip.
