We got back a few days ago and had a ball. Loved being on deserted beaches in the peak holiday season. Did the
Sandy Cape track and others. Thankyou Taswegians for your friendliness and sharing such a beautiful place with us. Yes we got bogged and had some challenges but after all thats half the fun.

We couldn't agree more. It's got so many varied experiences and you can pick and choose. Next time we reckon a canoe is required so we can explore the lakes and rivers. Chris.

Ahhh tassie... The last of the un tourist terrorised beauties.. Don't you just love the fact that they are still living in the 80's. Such a beautiful place with such beautiful people..

Yes we know what you mean about the eighties. That is part of what we love. We just couldn't get over the friendliness and helpfulness of the locals, even the bogunish types were so helpful. Chris.

Chris,
Your trip sounds great. Tassie is one of those special
places I think and definitely will be visited by us in the not too distant future.
So you have any pictures you can post? Would love to see some!! Especially of you bogged ;-))

We haven't got photos from our friends yet as we were stuck in the car while they winched us out of the foulest black muck you could imagine which was up over the bottom of the doors. That was only one time. We nearly ended up diving into a
creek on
Sandy Cape as the high side of the edge hid the
creek from our view. The drop off was about 2 feet and then the
water was about 2 feet deep and we were doing a reasonable speed on hard sand. We ended up hanging over one wheel after slamming on the anchors. We are experienced and careful 4wders but
Sandy Cape was quite challenging as
the hazards are a bit different to say the
VIC High Country. You do need to go in convoy with plenty of recovery gear at the ready. Our friends also had mishaps but our 2 incidents were the standouts for the trip. The
ranger station at
Arthur River has some sobering photos of destroyed and buried vehicles, even a light plane disappeared in quicksand once. Cheers, Chris.

Agreed it is a friendly place. It's been about 12 years since I was there, time for another visit. Last time we went on the Devil Cat....I've never been so sick in my life. Six hours of hell. We came back on the big boat, much better. Mike

We had 2 calm crossings but actually wanted some waves on the return trip as we did a day crossing. We wanted to see waves in Bass Strait but it was like a pond. Chris.

The Devil Cat went at about 80kms an hour and did the trip in 6 hours. It couldn't go if the swell hit about 4 metres. It ended up over 4 metres on our trip and they cancelled the immediate return so a lot of people waiting missed out. Luckily we had already booked the big boat for the trip back or we would have simply emigrated south to avoid the trip :-). A pity because at the time we could have sold our house and bought a suburb in Tassie. Its not like that now.

Yes the prices of houses make us wish we had bought a suburb on our honeymoon there in 1980. i remember looking at houses in
Sandy Bay Hobart that were half the price of our humble abode in the suburbs of
Melbourne. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Chris.

Chris and Lindsay,
We've got 4 nights remaining of our 6 week visit, then back to melb, we also did the
Sandy Cape track, a great trip onto a most stunning beach, and your right, some of the beaches almost empty, but must admit fairly cool
water for swimming, also agree with the posts, feels like back in the eighties, especially on the radio, Lionel Richie and more, some of the eateries are taking the p155 out of the touro's with the prices, other
places are sensational.
Cheers........Browny
