Just after opinions and advice as we're looking at buying a new Defender 90. Interested in what owners have to say about them and in particular a bit of info about where to fit a dual battery system. All help appreciated.
Thanks.

I own a Landy and love it. Unfortunately its not a Defender. aulro.com is the best place for info. They will all try and talk you into a Toyota here. This site is excellent for finding
places to go in it though. I like Lara Croft's 90. They've got the turning circle of a Mack Truck I think? Very capable though.

"They will all try and talk you into a Toyota here."
And why would THEY do that? Toyota don't even have a short wheel base to compare at the moment. Only vehicle close is the Wrangler. Often brand specific forums are the worst place for getting an unbiased opinion glossing over problems & talking up the brand.
If Magic is comfortable with some of the quirky features of the Landy I'm sure he'll find it a more than capable 4by.
Cheers Craig............

Magic.
The defender is a fine vehicle. The 110 is much more comfortable than the 90. There is room under the passenger
seat for a second battery, also under the mudguards on the 110. Eric

G/Day Magic, You are more likeley to get a accurate assumption off the landrover site AULRO, other than cause havoc around here.....LOL
I mean that in the nicest possible way, Its just the way it is

Yep!
AULRO is by far the best site for Landrover stuff.
In my opinion,
1. It tells the worst about them as
well as the good, not like here where L/R's are usually rubbished by people who's last landrover drive was in their mates 1960 series 2 that has done most of it's work on a
farm.
2. If you ask a question you will get constructive answers, not "Buy a Toyossan".
3. I find it a bit hard to navigate around in, but that's more likely to be me rather than the AULRO site itself.
I use it for tech information about both "Her" Disco TD5 and my '81 Series 3 and find it extremely helpful.
Hope you find it the same.
Disco.

After owning two Landrovers, I am the first to rubbish them BUT not the Defenders. I have never owned a Defender but have several very close friends with Defenders and they love them, they are very capable off road, have been very reliable unlike other Landrover products.
They have a mixture of 110's and 130's, not the 90's. If I were to have another Landrover, it would be a Defender.

We currently own two Defenders, one that has been completely rebuilt to suit long-range travel (Defender 130 Twin Cab) and the other is about to undergo a make-over.
They are a very capable vehicle and we use the Twin Cab to tow our TVAN, and whilst it won't break any speed records it works
well as a combination.
As others have said visit the AULRO site, plenty of information to be gleaned from there....
Good luck with your decision.
Cheers, The Landy

Can't help with 90, but we've had our 110 since 1997 and still love it. Has done over 300,000kms, about a third of that towing our van. We have second battery under passenger
seat; air compressor unit and
HF radio box are under left rear
seat; have compressed air storage tank fixed under body.

Lots of Landy drivers with sensitive spots aren't there?
As a Patrol driver I have nothing but praise for the 90. Lovely looking vehicles that are extremely capable. The short wheelbase introduces some compromises (just like any other brand's SWB) but if the pros outweigh the cons for you then it will be a good choice.
A neighbour of
mine drives one and he loves it, but he never has more than the one passenger and is happy to live with the limited rear access.
Dual batteries - the normal place to fit a second battery is under the passenger's
seat. Size is limited and you will have to get a gel battery (or whatever is the type that doesn't emit gas as it charges) to stay safe and legal.
Enjoy it.
