Sitting here at
home trawling ebay and sucking on a coldie straight from my little Waeco fridge, the fridge motor started another cycle but I noticed it falter and then increase speed and drop back again - like the mains power being fed to it was fluctuating, quite unusual. Is this at all possible and could this damage my fridge? I know bugger all about 240V apart from the fact that it scares the crap out of me.
I know this isnt directly
camp or travel related but its one of my travel fridges so it sort of counts :-P

Hi Roadwarrior
I doubt that normal mains fluctuations would damage your fridge
Remember your waeco fridge motor is variable speed
However, you may have a fault developing in the Waeco

You didn't mention the model or age of your fridge.
I have a CF 60 with the lights showing the temp seting and it has a similar problem. Apparently it is the poly fuse which determines the power source eg 12 or 240v, it is a known problem.
Cost about $10 to repair. I am waiting for our local repairer to get new stock after he was flooded last week.
Google Waeco poly fuse to see if your model is mentioned.

Thanks guys its a CDF35 and its about 3 months old
Although according to another site the poly fuse issue is only relevant for Waecos that have the 240v supply situated internally??
Mine is external, it's one of the "low end" ones without the temp display and buttons.
