Mum and Dad go to Port Smith/Barn Hill for about 14 weeks each year. They fish 4 days a week/crab 1 day and have the weekend off. Located about 140 south of Broome it would be a bit of a drive.

They leave around mid May from Adelaide and get to Broome in about 10 days. They head back towards end of August in 5 days. I think about half the people in Forster also come to that area also. Some travel there as fast as possible (1000 km/ day) others take a month.

Wendy,

Do as I do come every May and head north west to the Kimberly area.

Once you hit the coast the fishing and weather become more than pleasant.

Spend your time and money in QLD...the poor buggers will be needing all the tourist dollars they can get.

Lots I know go north to Karumba, Qld for the winter for all the reasons you stated, and keep going back year after year.

Google it and check it out.

And as Fab says, Qld can do some support this year.

Wendy roughly where in NSW do you live . We live in the Central Tablelands of NSW and head up to freds territory lake st Clair most winters and find it quite balmy. Although Fred will disagree with me lol. We where their in August last year and their was only one coolish night where it got down to 2c, most other nights where around the 8 to 10c range and the days where high teens. Fantastic and no crowds and none of those noisy water skiers.

It really depends on your budget then. But anywhere from Brisbane north on the coast should be ok.
