Pots and pans - advice

Hey guys

I am after some advice of where to get a good quality stackable, pots, pans and cutlery set for 4 people.

I have seen various sets second hand but have not been able to locate a quality set new. Currently I have all the pots and pans etc in a fish box, however I see this as a way of saving space if there is a set out there that will pack up compactly and is up to the job.

Thanks for your help.

Link below contains a set similar to what I am after.

I bought a set of these recently.

Excelent price. One removable handle, therefore real easy stacking.

Tefal Ingenio Blue Saucepans

And these:

Frying Pans

It's a shame they didn't have the frying pans in the "blue" range as they are cheaper. Nevertheless, they stack beautifully and handles and lid knobs are removable.

I have a set and they're great. Pack beautifully.
The stainless versions are also available, but over twice the price, though.
Extra handles and knobs are available, but they're pretty expensive compared with the original price of the set.
You'll need to make soft spacers to separate the stacked saucepans, to stop chafing the teflon.

I have just purchased this Tefal Cocoon set of pots & pans from Kitchenware direct. I have looked around and read up on many web forums before finally settling on this cocoon set.

Cheers

Horses for courses.

Captain has a campertrailer and needs to use his space efficiently.

I have a 20ft caravan with gobs of spare room.

They are both very good.

cheers

We have been using the Tefal Cocoon set for over a year now. We absolutely love it. It packs down to a very compact size, and easily fits in the cupboard under our sink in our campertrailer. We find the non-stick pieces easier to clean too. They can be wiped out with paper towel if you are watching your water.

Do you guys know of any shops/chain of strores that stock the Tefal range. So that I can go in and have a look before purchasing on the net. Bothe the sets look great, I would like to look at them in the flesh if possible.

Hi Jason,
Myer sells Tefal. I think Harvey Norman, and Kmart do too. Go to the Tefal website www.tefal.com.au and click on "where to buy".

Jason & Leanne,

I tried both Retravison and Target, both Tefal stockists, but neither stocked the Ingenio range.

I saw a stainless set that Navigator 1 showed me but, from memory, they weren't teflon coated (I'll stand corrected on that). Although the stainless frying pans are, figure that out.

Hence my search for the "Blue" range.

If you have plenty of room, like a caravan, not a camper, then get the set I bought. If space is an issue get the set Captain bought.

You won't be disappointed with them, I can assure you.

Hi Stephen,

I recently sold my Camprite and now have the AORC Quantum. Not as much room as a full caravan, but much more than a camper - its a crossover. Anyway, I bought the cocoon set as it seems to suit my needs best. I still have a 28cm scanpan as my "large" frypan, but thats all I plan to use now.

Cheers

I just bought a new set for the OKA here in Fiji.
They are made in India.
Stainless steel with copper bottoms and 2 side handles (not a 'loose' handle).
They nest. Available from tiny to huge. Slightly squat compared to most sausepans. These things are great.
Check the Indian shops. I have seen a couple of styles here and they are quite cheap.

Cheers,
Peter

I chose cheap pots and pans (like from Woolworths and Coles) as they are lighter. Cheap enough to replace if they ever come to grief. I purchased lightweight cutlery but can't remember where from - probably Big W or similar. The same ones (or look the same) are sold in camping stores.Mine came in a square plastic jar.

I too have just purchased a set made by Tefal from Kangaroo tent city a little bit pricey but very compact and comes in its own little bag.
Used it for 4 weeks camping over Xmas and never looked for or needed another pot or pan during that time, apart from a Hillbilly Camp Oven and a Square Fry pan from ABR (for cooking snags on the beach.)
For two adults and three kids it was perfect.

Cheers Michael

Good quality light weight stackable stuff can be had from most stores that provide gear for hickers. Mountain and similar brands also do stackable everything. Have found the most useful thing a heavy steel frying pan with a handle that folds in flat to the base of the frying pan. It is about 30cm (though came in many sizes) and can be used on a stove or fire with no issues. It was less than $20.

I use a Trangia for my pots, and just add a full sized saucepan which the Trangia fits into, and a large frypan. I put it, together with a plastic container containing all the plates, cutlery etc into a Nally fish box( also holds the filleting knives, cutting boards, etc)..... - not much room to spare and I cant think of how to / havent been able to pack it up any smaller

We bought our Tefal Ingenio at the Caulfield Caravan Show a year or two ago from I think Good Guys. Much cheaper than at Myers. A great product. I think Nav1 got theirs at Harris Scarfe.

We go the simple route and use a set of aluminium billies. They are light, stack together and you can use them on the stove top or the fire. We also have an old non-stick frying pan from IKEA that has been retired from house service. Along with that we carry a Bedourie and a big stainless billy for our showers.

The whole lot stacks together with the bedourie on the bottom, then the stainless billy, the set of billies and the fold-up mesh toaster inside that, and the frying pan slides down the side. It all fits into a drawer in the back of our 80 series.

For plates, we bought sets of plastic picnicware (big plates, bowls & cups) from Bunnings (around $7 a set) and our cutlery is old household stuff, but you can buy a cheap set from Big W or IKEA or any of the big shops. You can roll it up if you want to stash it somewhere small.

I don't happen to know of any quality sets that will do what you're asking, but with a bit of innovation you can make up your own and it will be just as good!

Thanks Amy all good advice.

My kit at the moment consists mainly of retired house stuff. Pots pans etc, and a plastic picnic set which is all quite fine. Its just that we have recently sold our 80 series and have gone to a CT (from our tent) so we are trying to reduce the amount of stuff that ends up in the vehicle and confine it to the trailer, and space is a premium.

Tefal Ingenio have a blue enamel set of saucepans 5 stackabe with non stick coating they also have a 28cm wok and 2 smaller frypans.

they have 2 stainless frypans non stick 28cm wok
also have set of stainless saucepans
also a coocoon set stainless non stick 1 wok 1 frypan 1 pot
these are all great sets but pricey

you could just buy a handle about $25
a set of cheap saucepans from kmart or stvinnies or the salvos they need to have a small lip for the handle to clip onto, remove original handles grind off any protruding bit and you have a set that fits together

tefal have a seconds and discontinued shop in nsw look up the web site and call them
do a google search and you will find many outlet for this product in kitchen outlets happy hunting
old sunbeam electric frypans with lids you can pick up in op shops are great for on the fire and on the stove remove any plastic bits
happy cooking kate
