If all goes to plan we'll be doing the Anne Beadell and Connie Sue later this year. Originally planned to follow the CS down to
Rawlinna and then across to Kalgoorlie.
However noticed that QVS is in the area and we are now considering detouring off the CS and heading across via
Plumridge Lakes and Officer Basin to QVS.
Anyone done this in last few years and is it a worthwhile detour? What are the tracks like (thinking in terms of added fuel consumption)?
The map we have shows Cundeelee as 'abandoned' - is this still the case?
Are any permits required to visit QVS?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Hi MightyMoose,
There's not a lot to see when you get there. It depends how eager you are to see historically significant waterholes.
You will need a permit for Cundeelee. A fair bit of construction was happening in 2006 when I went through - it is not abandoned.
North of the spring it is fairly loose sand, gets harder the further south you go. Last year at Officer Basin
camp there was a lot of activity.
When I went there I had a hard time believing that the actual site was the correct one, as it looked so different from historical images - I guess when the natives stopped using it the vegetation significantly increased.
Cheers
Alan

Thanks Equinox,.
How good of you to show the changes over the years. It's fascinating. We didn't have time to go in there on our holz.
Take care, safe travels.
Bye Ma.

I'm a bit of an Explorer tragic Ma, and try to take every opportunity I can to promote
Explorers to people who perhaps might otherwise not know about them or the
places they visited.
All the best
Regards
Alan

Thanks again equinox.
The fact that you're good enough to show it to the rest of us is good of you.
Yes , some of those early
explorers certainly had some tenacity. For some it was very tragic wasn't it, they must have been determined.
You must have one of them in your blood lines!
It's very interesting, we like to follow where most of them went.
Take care, safe travels.
Bye, Ma.

We travelled that route west to east in 2009, Cundellee is definately abandoned, no
sign of recent activity there at all. Never seen so many old 60's and 70's cars as there were scattered around in the scrub north of there though.
The track is pretty good from the trans rd north to Cundelee, then VERY overgrown between there and QVS. The spring had
water in it then and looked pretty much as per Equinox's pics. The track north from QVS was also overgrown in spots but once you reached the track across towards
Plumridge lakes it was fairly good going. Into Plumridge was overgrown in spots and then pretty good until just west of the CS where there were some very tight sections with detours around them. The CS south to
Rawlinna was shocking corrugations but the road south to the Eyre hwy was worse.
