break away breaks

hi to all have just joined up have a new campomatic trailer just wondering if its compulsery to have electric break away breaks on it or not just manual brakes is ok for max load 1100 kg trailer

You don't need to have breakaway brakes fitted unless your rig exceeds 2,000kg GTM (Gross Trailer Mass or the maximum permissible on your wheels, does not include tow ball weight.) There is nothing stopping from fitting them on smaller trailers but if you do then you must maintain the battery that supplies the brake current.
