In october 2008 I had the windscreen in my vehicle replaced by Windsceen O'Brien's. On my last trip collected a couple of chips & the w/screen had started to leak. Went back to O'Brien's, quoted $130.00 for the chips, no charge for the leaks. Being happy with that gave them the go ahead.
Yes the screen cracked & had to be replaced.
They replaced the windscreen, rubbers etc No Charge whatsoever.

Think they may have been a few dollars dearer than another couple of quotes in the original replacement.
Mike.

That's great Michael, but I'm a bit confused. You had a couple of chips @ $130 but "the screen cracked & had to be replaced". Was this while they were repairing it or later or what?

I am interested in the effectiveness and life of chip repair.

Cheers
Allan

Allan,
Sorry if I was a bit vague.
As the windscreen had developed a small leak which is covered by warranty they have to remove the screen to fix the leaks. In the process of removal one of the chips cracked across the screen.
They could very well of claimed that the chip caused the crack an ask me to contribute towards the cost. I offered to at least pay the $130. 00 which they declined.
The chip repairs are guaranteed for as long as the origonal owner has the vehicle.
Mike.

Hmm In contrast. Last week I cracked my 100ser screen.

Rang O'Briens Yes we do then $528 thank you, when would you like it done.

Is it a genuine Toyota Screen NO.

Rang local guy who used to do the glass on the buses I worked for.

45mins and $220 I had the same brand of screen O'Briens fit.

Yes, I found something similar for the Patrol.
O'B quoted a similar price, but said they'd reduce it by about $100 if I made up my mind then and there.
Got another quote for about $200, and they came to my vehicle.

Michael.
After 15yrs. the windscreen on my Toyota said enough is enough.
Well, it was not going to pass the next rego check anyway.

A few quotes convinced me W/O'brien were the blokes to do the job.
Was a 125km. drive to visit them, offered a cup of coffee whilst I waited (what, with a pub on the corner?), but had the job done in no time.

The boss asked me about my insurance, no mate, its cash here, deal was done and six months later no leaks, could not pick from the original except for the "blue band" across the top (which is ok too from the sun aspect).

On leaving was told that any chips within 6 months would be fixed foc.
Is that service or what, eh?

Mike,

I hope you don't get any windscreen damage when you come to Chinchilla for the Melon Festival ;)

The roads are falling apart out here at the moment I have coped a couple more stone chips in the work car this week already :(

Cheers Kev

Kev.
The last time we came through Chinchilla the camp at the weir was a complete shemozzle with people running power leads everywhere from the single power box on the pole.

We had a decent enough spot, were going to spend possibly 2 days whilst I rotated the truck wheels.
Job was about done when a converted bus/motorhome pulled up and this quite irate bloke proceeded to let me know we were camped in "his spot" and to shift out of it.

That went down real well, I said if you have to book in here what is your site number?

Didn't mention we were going to be leaving and as we quietly put things away watched him block the bus up to level where he was jammed into the trees about 80 metres away.

When they had most things out, tv antenna set up and pointing at the sky we said hoo roo to the very nice people camped next to us and left.

If you had seen the look on that blokes face, and as we turned the corner onto the road to town another van was arriving.
Karma, eh!

Mike,

The Chinchilla wier is a little battle scarred at the moment as it ended up about 4m under water during the flood.
I am not sure if the power has been restored at the poles as yet but I am sure they will be operational again before the 17th which is the start of the 4 day Melon Festival.

All the Sandflies have vacated the town area, but I haven't stopped in at the weir as yet to see if they are still active out there.

Cheers Kev

I gave up with O'briens after the 3rd screen in our Pajero failed in quick succession. I demanded that my fleet co stop using them. They were way over priced and the glass was crap - full of ripples. I replaced the last one with one of the "local blokes" - same service, same guarantee, seemingly much better glass and $230 less!.

Worst on I had was got a screen at Smith & Smith and right in the middle it had a hand print on it.

Polished both sides and it didn't go away.

Turned out when it was made a worker had put his hand on the plastic film that is in the middle of a laminated screen.

Had to be replaced by them.

Was rather different I thought What happened to quality control.
