Garmin Problems

Hi all,

I am having a few problems with my Garmin Nuvi 760.

I had the maps upgraded three days ago to the latest 2011 variety.

Initially the unit was running very slow, I would be through an intersection by about 30 -40 mtrs before it registered on the screen, so I took it back anfdthe dealer upgrade the software for me FOC as I had not upgraded anything on the unit since I bought it back in 2008.

Same problem, unit runs slow, and now it seems to be having trouble displaying street names, it will work OK for about 5 mins, then all street info disappears for about 10 mins, then it comes back again.

The dealer seems to think the unit is faulty and needs to go back to Garmin, I find it a bit strange that it worked perfectly until the upgrade, I am rather loath to send it back to Garmin, I will probably never see the unit again, any thoughts as to a probable cause to this fault.?

Regards

Barry,
Sound like a processing / RAM problem.

I have one of these units and everything other than City Explorer is loaded on the SD card.

Have a look and see if you have stuff on the Garmin which could go on the SD.

Cheers

They had a recall on the 760 something to do with the battery being faulty.
I sent mine back i think in October last year 7 they replaced the unit with the 765 plus the upgraded maps.I am quite happy with this one, eventhough i did not have any problems with the 760.
Get onto there wesite to see if they are still doing the recall.

Cheers.Bob.

I had a Nuvi 310 that did that I would be past an intersection before it got there.

Got sensible and got rid of it and bought a TOMTOM.

Problem solved

Sounds strange, I have a 760 and have the current maps installed. It runs better then the previous map update. It is a bit slow I guess, but not so slow that its a problem.

I have found that if I have a lot of POI's loaded things can slow down a lot and become problematic.

G'day Barry,
Have you been on the Garmin website? I found the dealers did not know finer details, but I always got on to someone who did.
I wanted to run nRoute on my Garmin Oregon 300 via laptop. The dealer said it could not be done, Garmin had it sorted in an hour by email.

Cheers,
Bill

Send it back to Garmin. Their service for repairs etc is top notch

Hi Barry

I had some troubles with my 760 about a year back.

Same as your situation, immediately after I did a map upgrade the unit started to become very un reliable. It would freeze up all the time and the Bluetooth would keep dropping out whilst I was making calls. A simple power down and restart would have it back running but at times it wouldn't go 10 mins without crashing.

I contacted gamin and When I finally got in touch with an Australian service provider he told me that in my latest map update there was also a software or firmware update built in. He said there had been a glitch in the new software and sent me an email with a rollback to the previous version, from memory it was vers4.9 back to vers 4.8

Did the install and it hasn't missed a beat since, perhaps your having similar issues?

Hope it helps,

Jack
