I see the media is reporting that cyclone Yasi is the worst cyclone to ever hit the Queenslanbd coast, although it was a very intense cyclone it was not the worst since records began.

Here is a LINK to the worst on since records began.

I thought they were saying it was the worst in living memory, just like the recent floods in QLD

If there were worse ones "outside of living memory", what part of climate change caused them?
Maybe a good question for Bob Brown!

Kev,
what prompted me put this in, was a report just before that it was the worst cyclone ever. It may have just been a slip from the reporter.

Overall the media reporting has been excellent and the response from the state government and the SES has been top notch. They seem to have had all angles covered and with the army waiting ready to get in help will not be far away.

With all that has happened in this state I am still amazed at how well the logisticial nightmare has been co-ordinated.

Pity some are trying to make political mileage out of it at this time.

Hi Rockape, Well said. Good post. I don't know if you copped any damage but I hope things will eventually work out for all Queenslanders. I know there are other states with damage including my own but the post was about QLD so keep smiling & all the best not only to yourself but everyone in the "Sunshine state" As Dorothea McKeller once wrote..."I love a sunburnt country a land of sweeping plains of rugged mountain ranges of drought & flooding rains...." See it must have been happening in her time too...Climate change? I don;t think so. IMHO

Orejap,
thanks for that, we received no damage and very little puff.

Yes all states have suffered if it's not blown over or flooded it's on fire. I felt big time for the grain belt as I know how much water degrades the crop even if you can get it off. The banana, cane cockies and all involved with the industry will suffer.

Kev posted about a couple of videos made in the grain belt of NSW, they are both worth watching just google Baywatch Armatree and Bogged Machinery

My award for Journalism goes to Pat C who asked the Premier.

"When the waves get to the coast will they hit Townsville or Magnetic Island first"

DUH

The cyclone came from the east and where is Magnetic Island in relation to Townsville

EAST.

Where do they get them.

Orejap, what you said. "As Dorothea McKeller once wrote..."I love a sunburnt country a land of sweeping plains of rugged mountain ranges of drought & flooding rains...." See it must have been happening in her time too...Climate change? I don;t think so." She was only 19 too.
Throw that at any tree hugging climate change twit.

honestly one does not need a lot of grey matter to become a journalist. sure you go to learn how to look pretty and smile or grimace when required for the camera. Aswell as make sure your makeup is spot on.
afterall journalism isnt as respected job by any means. look how parasitic they can be by invading peoples privacy during harsh times.
I know I wouldnt be keen on a camera being shoved in my face or showing whats left of my wordly possessions to the world.
hmmmmm a couple of months of wet season to go yet soooooo
whats still on the cards fro storms ?????

In todays Courier Mail there is an article about this and how the Deaf interpreter rolled her eyes when a certain male journalist opened his mouth, usually for the umpteenth time during a press conference.

Presumably it was the one I referred to as all you could here at question time was his inane drivel..

We got back to our unit at lunch time to find the power had been restored.

The airconditioner and the washing machine are getting a fair flogging at the moment.

Doug,
your photo's brought back memories of escorting some long loads through Ingham, well it is getting close to sunset and it is time to pull up for the night, one driver had a thing going with a barmaid in Cardwell and well we just kept going straight through town, left a few wheel marks in the garden that surrounded that little round about that used to be the middle of town. Glad the local copper didn't catch us.

Well one truckie was happy to make Cardwell, just goes to show you boys do only think with their defective brains. Beccy Cole quote.

Have a good one

And now apparently, Melbourne had flash flooding.

This time last year people were complaing there was no water around. Now their complaining there is to much.

These changes have been going forever. The Aboriginals knew about drought, and they knew about floods. They also knew about cyclones, although I think I would prefer our early warning system to theirs. Would hate to be caught out without some kind of shelter.

For Australia this is the normal course of our weather patterns.
