G'Day everyone,
Just ordered a new Colorado and they are doing the usual upsell. Does anyone have any experience with or heard anything about the "paint sealer and sound deadener" products the dealer is trying to sell me??
Any feedback appreciated.

We have 2 cars in our family that are basically the same vehicles. The Laser being a rebaged Mazda 323.

One is a 2000 model Ford Laser with no paint sealer or deadener & the other is a 2000 model Mazda 323 that has had paint sealer & deadener applied at purchase. Both have metalic paint.

I can not find any difference between the 2 vehicles as far as noise reduction or frequency of application of polish so in answer to your question. Don't waste your money!

Cheers
Stu

Whatever the dealer is trying to sell you can be bought elsewhere for less.

When we bought our Patrol my wife was talked into the paint protection and upholstery treatment.

Was about $1200 all up.

Could have got it all for about $400 elsewhere.

Later when I bought the Cruiser it had the towbar removed before I bought it.

Asked them to replace it.

We will supply one for $600+ if you take out an extended warranty.

HA HA I bought a genuine Toyota one for $480.

Similarly have just bought a new car and asked salesman for a price on rear mudflaps.

$137.40 a pair for each set he said..

Hmmm went round to the parts department of the same company and bought them for

exactly $87.40.

Get the picture.............

Never trust a car salesman

pick up my new patrol trayback on tuesday, got talked into rust protect, sound dead & tint $995 . i agreed because the car shark said dealer provided rust protect has vehicle lifetime no rust guarantee if done before delivery.
my 06 pajero has dealer fitted elect rust protect & is starting to rust ( we do a fair bit of beach ) ,paint protect which only lasts 5 yrs ( we got wiped out by a truck & trailer big time in 09 & suncorp would only reprotect the damaged area , about 60% of car & 20% of jayco hawk outback camper damaged ).

i don't think they are worth the money but i'm lining up again.

Read the FINE PRINT on rust guarrantees - Mitsubishi have one - but I'd be spending a fortune on inspections by Mitsubishi for it to be valid.

In 1998 i bought a new toyota Vienta, screwed them down on the price as far as i could paying cash and playing 3 dealers off against each other when i got the best deal i could, i then got the winning dealer, to throw in Ming protection for the fabric, and the rust protection and deadener, to clinch the deal for him,
Then in 2002 i bought a Mazda Tribute and pushed the same type of deal, only this time it was paint protection and sound deadener, Both dealers [claimed there was no room to move on the price !! but to get the deal they both though in the protection package, This say's to me that it all a ripp-off and the cost to the dealer is probaly only about 20% of what the try to rip you off
spend your $1200 bucks on something you really need, [and works ]

Thankyou all very much for your thoughts, I appreciate the time taken to reply to my question.
Pretty much all of you confirmed my suspicions.
