I have been checking out other comments in this and other forums, seems that lots of people have problems with their 3 way not working on 240V/12v all of a sudden, we are currently having the same problem, one day working, next day not, thank goodness for gas over Christmas as worked OK on that. we have someone coming to have a look next week, he is an agent for Dometic, maybe should have taken out the extended warranty bu*#er. l dont know what were up for yet but I bet it wont be nice !! is there a company in Australia that manufactures 2way or 3 way fridges for caravans etc that suit our climate??

Most likely the 240v element has burnt out . Barnray

Hi Carolyn

You do not state model, but some do use same element for both 12v & 240v operation.
These model's elements seem to have a short life obviously not just not correctly designed for our voltages.

Dometic do not seem to be interested in the problem.!!!

Hi Peter.

I found out how interested they are, spoke to a tech advisor and all he wanted to do was hand ball me to the local agent as quickly as possible, definitely wasn't interested in offering advise or possible solutions, the model we have is the RM2553.

Hi Carolyn
That model has seperate elements for 240v & 12v
However the 12v will probably only operate while engine is running[if installed correctly.]
I would say your problem is most likely the 240v element.

G'day Carolyn
Have a 2008 Jayco Sterling with same model fridge, 240v element blew at 1 year 11 months. Repairer in Brisbane took 20 mins to replace. Some said they needed the fridge out to fix. So where ever you get it fixed check time frame, as well as price. We bought our van 1 year old and it has been used constantly, but that still seems too short to call reliable.

Yeah we have had our Van for almost 4 years, brought it new, so far we have taken the fridge out of cabinet but cant get it out the door without pulling it apart, the agent wanted us to drop it at his workshop, had to ring and tell him we couldn't get it out the door, my husband tried it this way and that way but just wouldnt go quite funny actually, don't know enough to start pulling thing apart, anyway he is coming to see us this week so will know more about whats what then I guess, still preparing ourselves for a nasty shock,

Have had the same problem with portable 3 way fridges, i used to tip the whole fridge upside down for a couple of minutes and then restart, all good till next time.

Got this info from fridge mechanic.
