What is the best campsite in Litchfield 4WD preferred

appreciate your suggestions also, for the Safari camp ground, did you have to pre book your unpowered site for say around June/July?

We arrived 12 August, and there was heaps of room to get away from everyone in the unpowered section. Most people chose powered sites which were nice grassy sites around the amenities block, so i don't anticipate a need to book for unpowered any time of the year. We never book anywhere and always find a place. They generate their own power, so the sound of the generator was the only noise we could hear. For those taking a powered site, they charge extra for caravans with air conditioners (which i only found out when asking their fees for my caravan park report). Although it was hot during the day when we were out touring, it was pleasant during the evening so we wouldn't have wanted to use the air con anyway.

MH, was a while ago but I rocked up to the Tjaynera Falls campground in the evening and one other person was there and he ended up leaving so had the place to myself

This was the north side of the river when were were there in August and by that time the river wasn't very deep. We were on a 'day trip' and with our long wheel base, decided not to risk the steep climb back as pictured here.

Litchfield is lovely.
We rang the Ranger for the conditions of the Reynolds River every third day until we got there. This was late Aug about 2003. They'd had rain. We were warned that there were crocks in it so we didn't want to walk it first.
We were concerned about it as we didn't have a snorkel at that time. It is in a long way so you really don't want to go in that far & have to turn back.
The Ranger had told us the water level on that day & it was O.k...Just.
We entered from the South side & all was well until just before 1/2 way accross and the back drivers side wheel found a very deep hole. We were very lucky to get out as the water got up to the exhaust pipe.
I don't know the condition now. However,I think that The Reynolds in May might be asking a bit too much. It's a very pretty drive though. As for camping spots in the Park, I wouldn't stay in the Park either we stayed just outside & went in for the day trip. The road to twin falls was closed .Take care,safe travels Ma.
