hi all , looking into repowering the ol" 60 . Has the old 2h power plant with 470thou on the clock and still in reasonable condition enginewise and bodywise. More the point just got it to where i like mod wise and dont want to have to go through uninstalling and reinstaling in another. The ol girl is just getting tired , doesnt blow smoke but just struggles on long trips which with the club which could be a 6-700 k round trip for a day trip here in the
pilbara. Do i recondition the 2h or look for something a bit newer and fresher , not iterested in v8 conversions as fuel economy is an issue with long distance touring in the mix. cheers in advance, wayne

Mate easiest way is to install a fully rebuilt 12ht if you can find one. This means no mods to your current setup.
Next you could install a 1hz or 1 hz turbo, this creates problems with aircon, exhaust and radiator also you would probably be wise to rebuild unless you can get a low K model
The 12ht is a great engine and is up there in the horsepower department.
As for the chev V8,
mine uses less fuel than my old 2h and towing it is not using anymore than the new Tojo V8's.
Have a good one.

Hey rockape your V8 would be a lot cheaper to run because it wouldn't chew oil like the u-beut tojo V8

G'day I've had 2 x 60's before 2H & 12HT the 12HT is a brilliant motor but are very expensive to buy I think their still around 6 grand I think if you were looking at reconditioning the 2H look at turbogharging it tell the mechanic so he can rebuilt it to suit. denco would probably be one of the better turbo's to use for the long term with a 2 1/2 inch exhaust it would be like a new car good luck anyway

Hi, just gone through the same exercise, 2H with 520 000k's on the clock, had a turbo kit fitted, good improvement, then rebuilt the motor, in chassis, new pistons, rings, piston pins, new mains and thrusts, new bigends, head cleaned and surfaced ground, new pre-combustion chanbers, new valves and new exhaust valve seats, all parts were ex Japan from known companies, engine rebuild cost total $2500.00.
Now great vehicle to drive and tow with, hope this helps
