Hello, I have recently purchased a camper van. Its one that is like a caravan, but when you open it up you have to pull the beds out at either end. It is 1980's and a bugger for a young person like me to setup. Am I not setting it up properly, is there something I can do to make it easier to pull the bed ends out? There are three clips under the bed ends, you need to lift the bed end up and out to set it up. Being at my shoulder height, having these big springs and pretty heavy, I am considering to sell it if I can not make fix it. Any contact is appreciated.

My in laws have a 70's or 80's Jayco that sounds exactly like what you're describing. We have gone away with them many times and it is a downright pain to set up. It takes about 2 hours for one person to have everything set up including the awning. He is a big burly bloke too, so I think what you're experiencing might be quite normal for this type of camper. I'm not sure if the newer ones have improved on this though.

Hi Melissa, Mark from Ballina here, got Jayco Dove2005 model, pull out beds, uses 2 prop tubes, ours works well & quick, make sure the roller guides aren't shagged or dry tracks, could be worth a trip to caravan service guys, hope this helps......

Hi . I have a 93 Jayco Eagle camper and I can set it up with the fly's ( not the awning) in about 10mins by myself , I am 71yrs old , but 6 ft, I just wind it up and pull out the ends , then lift with shoulder to put the 2 pipe struts in, then extend end canvas from inside then lace up and all done .
Not sure if the earlier ones are different as you didn't give the make and model.
Had it for 10 years and really enjoy it . easy to tow and I can wheel it around ( on gravel) by myself.
Cheers Des.

Melissa, if you're travelling with your partner or kids, get them on the inside to give a little push as you pull out the ends. Makes it a lot easier to share the load. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much everybody for the quick assistance. Firstly, I think it took me about two hours to set it up the first time. I have set it up for the second time today and found it a little easier, so I am thinking that maybe it needs some sort of greasing up. Secondly, I think what Mark said is probably one of the bigger problems, thanks again for the tip. I will look into that idea first I think. Thirdly, I am not sure what the make or model is. I am in my mid twenties, so it is my first buy and experience with such things. If 71 year old Des can put one up surely it isnt just my lack of muscels! I can also wheel it around and is easy to tow. Last, but not least, my partner is away at the moment. I wanted to go travelling with our daughter, so that is why I posted this question. Thanks for the tip, but she is only two! Ha ha ha.
