Choosing a 5th wheeler

I am keen to know if a Cedar Creek 5th wheeler, 2006 model, is a reliable unit to travel with. Assuming it meets compliance with Aust. regulations re electrical and gas, I am wanting to know if they are sturdy enough for extended travel on our roads. Does anyone have information that may help me become better informed? Also, I am trying to determine possible fuel costs if towed by a Ford F250 or similar turbo diesel. Looking forward to linking with fellow travellers.

Same things apply.

Be VERY Careful it is fully compliant as said in that thread.

Thank you Graham H, for your comment.

I have now read the thread you had indicated and noted that information. There certainly seems to be many 'unknowns' in the travel scene, especially with something like 5th wheeler units, aas they seem to be mostly imported.

Once they are over 4500kg it's a whole different game, which Cedar Creek 5th Wheelers appear to be.

Over that and they have to be fitted with air brakes I seem to recall.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the information regarding air brakes. I had really only focused on electric brake uits, but will now follwo up on the air brake requirement of any 5th wheeler vehicle I check up on.

Thanks for your comments so far, I am very keen to hear any information - good or bad - about these size 5th wheelers. Also would like to know if they have suitable suspension set up for Aust roads. I appreciate the comments received.

Hi Peter.
It might pay to have a look at the CMCA website forum.

Cheers.

I don't know anything about the Cedar Creek 5th wheelers but I do know of an Aussie built Future Systems 5th wheeler and Ford 25O combo for sale. It really is a beautiful unit.

Thanks for your response, Double J. I am interested in 5th wheelers, so any information I can get would be really great. If you do have some further details, perhaps you might choose to email me directly at: pach04@bigpond.net.au.

I would appreciate any information at this stage.

Hi Nick B, Thanks for this info. I will certainly now look at th width question. I think the Cedar Creek is under 8", but will need to check this.
