Oodnadatta Tack in May 2011

Hi guys,
we are planning a trip from Adelaide up to Lake Eyre and then through to Marla and onto Alice in mid May this year. Our thoughts were we would like to see the lake as full as it will probably get in our lifetime.
While I have looked at the road conditions now and all are closed what are our chances in three months.
We have 4 patrols ,one with off road van three with on road vans. Hoping that the track will have dried out and been graded nicely by then. Big ask I know.
We always drive to the road conditions and a nice slow trip would not bother us.
We came down the track two years ago and it was a nice smooth run but with all this rain who knows what it will be like and how much more will we get.
Any ideas ?
thanks

It is a bit of a ‘crystal ball’ question really and your answer will be as good as the next. I doubt you will have any problems with the vehicles, or vans, especially if you drive to the conditions and the track is in ‘normal’ condition.

But will it rain more, or will it be graded to a standard that you may need with on-road vans...well that is a sixty-four million dollar question. I suspect it will be a busy time either way...

Good luck, and enjoy your trip, ‘The Landy’

Who knows. But as you have stated you've done these trips before and know the variables, you've probably anwsered your own question.

We did it May last year, not long after the rains. The Oodnadtatta Track had recently been graded as had many of the Tracks in the NT. The road conditions were great with only about 300km of medium corrugations from Yunta to the Flinders Ranges.

With some luck and not too much rain between now and then you could experience the best in road conditions like we did.

Cheers
