Hi there
Here I am again in regards to our upcoming venture to the VHC. (tread # 84615)
Spoke to the local Ranger, very nice guy, but he was not able to give me any indication how deep the river is at the crossing.
He also pointed out that Tom Groggin station is not really keen letting people driving through their property to cross the river.

Q.
-anyone crossed the river lately? (all our 4WD (3) are fitted w/ snorkels)
-where to look for info?
-I believe that some people got permission from the station to cross? (any chance to get their phone #?

I know lots of questions, but we are all excited and looking forward to this trip.

You VIC residents have a much more supportive Government the we do in NSW.....

I crossed it about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Water is no more than 400mm deep at the deepest when I crossed. You will see the rock bottom in the daylight and the shallowest part follows an obvious arc.
If you relax at a faster pace you can get more relaxation in for a given time.
Regards Rob

The crossing is not on the property of Tom Groggin, it is on the camp ground next door. The river height varies every day. The crossing gate is in Vic and at certians time of the year the vics close the crossing and the fwd tracks this is mainly in winter when it is raining and snowing so the 4wd do not cut up the tracks, suggest you call the vic nat parks to find out if the track will be open when you are going to travel

NSW NPWS would love to close the crossing expecially as they cannot charge you an entrance fee to the NSW NP if you are travelling through. Stay at the camping area on the NSW side and you will pay, camp on the Vic side and it's free.

Hi there,

I always have trouble ascertaining accurate river height at Tom grog gin, the 4 times I have been in all different seasons have never been a problem. Has been up to bonnet depth but with a loose but rocky base has never been a big issue. Also my air intake is driver side so is on downstream side ( traveling north to south)

If coming from north to south, head downstream in big arc and then almost upstream into exit. Vice versa if south to north.

I am told there is a new jackeroo on Tom grog gin station and he is generally on channel 13, so if all else fails, give this a try as a last resort.

There are a few clips in YouTube which might help you

One of the best parts of this country.....enjoy
