I'm looking for tyres that have at least 4 ply sidewalls. There used to be a Bridgestone 'Jeep Service' Tyre that was an 8 ply tyre that had 4 ply sidewalls but that was maybe 15 years ago.
Any suggestions
regards.........jeff

I seem to recall that my last 4x4 had Cooper ST's which were 8 ply walls.
Stand corrected if my memory is wrong!!!!!

8 ply Steve but not in the wall. And it seems not all wall ply ratings are equal between brands either as Cooper ST's are far thinner than tyres like Procomp's Exteme series or Goodyear MTR's in fact ST's would be one of the last ones I'd choose if specifically after sidewall protection.
Cheers Craig.

Maybe ask a tyre retailer or tyre wholesaler?

Most MT tyres have a 3 cord side wall and now use denier cord

this link may explain it

Gday Bruce
" Denier " is the way cord is measured,ie. your wifes stockings are 15 or so denier.

When you said Bridgestone Jeep Service tyres, do you have a heavy 7.50x16 in mind? If that is the case, have a look at thread 62006 on this site. They don't come much heavier than those things.

Yep but be mindful of what use you're putting them too. From that blokes personal website;
"In hindsight I erred on the side of tyre choice as the heavy duty cross-ply tyres were unsuited for soft sand driving and towing and I had some issues with small pebbles getting into the casing cavity and puncturing the tubes. I also had the misfortune of spinning the rims on the tyres when at 10psi and thus breaking the valves off the tubes. Lesson learned!"
For some definitive info on MRF's I'd probably look here;
Mick Huttons tyre page

If you want tough, have a look at MRF tyres from India.

G,Day Jeff, Apart from the ply wishes, it depends on use. Whilst the MRF,s are tough, they do limit sand
hill crossings and braking on wet bitumen.
Sidewall construction varies with some having thicker and closer spacing of the cords but IMHO 3 plies are max for a radial.
