Hi Jordan.
If your 80 series is terrible, it is heaps better than
mine, which is 'worthless'. However, the 'lcool' site has a comprehensive run down on how to adjust your handbrake. It should be good for about 4 weeks, then it goes back to 'terrible' again.
lcool handbrake link here
Hope this helps you out.
Jack

Common problem unfortunately, still the same on a few 100 series I've encountered too.

Hi Jordan,
An easy job to do, sit her up on chassis stands under the rear axle, follow the method in the LCOOL link that Jack posted.
My handbrake was shocking, followed this method 18 months ago and it works a treat, took about 3/4 of an hour and washed down with a couple of coldies after,
and thought how easy was that.

I have the same problem trying to maintain an effective handbrake.
Some findings to date: linings vary in area and composition which is why after
much research I have ordered linings from Darren at Auto Craft Geelong(no
affiliation). Will post results after a reasonable
test distance.
Certainly follow LCOOL adjustment method with absolute minimum back off of
the adjuster.

"linings vary in area and composition" - There's your problem Colin! You are spending too much on the linings for your handbrake.
Matt.

Mine went from worse to terrible last year and after a quick look around found that the left axle seal was leaking onto the inside of the disc rotor/handbrake drum and onto the handbrake shoes as
well. Changed all the bits including axle bearing as the diff oil had just about washed the grease away.
All good now,
well as good as it gets.....

easy fix
just always park your vehcle properly being in 1st or reverse and engine off
if the slope is very steep chuck it in low range
havnt used my handbrake for years because its pointless but follow those simple steps and you wont have an issue
its only when people get lazy and try and leave a car running when they open the garage door for example theres isssues
