Is it just me, or is anyone else finding their computer just about has a fit when the Optus ad starts. Fan goes 100mph and site becomes almost unuseable?
Could this be the cause of last weeks speed problems? Any ideas? Regards.Tim.

Not just the Optus advertisement but lots of others. I tried a few times that when the PC is working hard to go to a simple site like Google and the PC quietens down and responds as normal. It seems to be caused by all the fancy moving ads. It gets so bad that I just give up on exploroz and go else where.
DAMNED annoying. Blowed if I am going to buy a new PC just to satisfy their need to run all these ads.

It still doesn't suppress alll the ads which can be distracting.

It doesn't stop many of them at all Dunc. I blamed the ads for EO being too slow for me to want to use the site much, but after the last big upgrade thingo David did, it came good - for about a day - but is back to being too slow again.

It's just flash. I suggest you have PC issues if it is killing your PC.... Perhaps update your version of Flash.

The issue is with Flash and the way the developer has created the Flash animation, not the speed of one's PC. I have a 3GHz processor (dual), and the machine absolutely howls like a vacuum cleaner when a Flash ad loads on this site. It does the same on SMH and a few other sites, but not quite as badly. Uninstalling Flash does the trick, but then you can't watch YouTube.
To those of you who don't have any issues, I would suggest it is because your fan isn't configured to speed up when the CPU usage goes up. If you view your Task Manager while ExplorOz is loaded, you'll see it go up to 80-90% consumption. My PC at work is like this - no fan noise but CPU still working hard.
I still haven't been able to find a fix for this other than to uninstall Flash.

You can stop all the ads by using a program called Adblock plus, works very
well ;-))

Adblock plus won't work with Internet Explorer. I have to buy Firefox. Blowed if I am going to change my browser. I have heaps of favourites, contacts and utilities and things set p in it. Lots of shortcuts would also have to be edited. Thats a pain.
Its easier to give this site a miss or put up with it if I use it.

Wasn't suggesting you complain.
Was simply suggesting you bring the issue to the attention of the site owner and maybe he could look into it and help.
Member or not, I'm sure David is always interested in any possible site issue.

Hi River etc (dont know your name)
But its all the desktop shortcut editing and favourites and contacts etc that would have to be transferred. That is not worth it. I just want to use the PC. Not spend ages doing all that. Then what about any other incompatability issues with other programs I have that use IE for net comms. I think not my friend. I worked with computers since 1970 until I retired The last thing I want is to work on them now that I have trains, 4wd, and ham radio to play with.
Its just one
forum. There are more.
Cheers

vk1dx - firstly you don't BUY Firefox. You download it free from
this page. (This page does not give you one with USA language like IE comes with.) It is only a 7.8 MB download.
Secondly, when you install FF you have the option to transfer all your bookmarks (the correct name for favorites,) settings and passwords.
There is a better range of addons for FF. I think you would be a mug not to at least give it a try.
As
well as things like addblocker there is Lazarus:
Forum Recovery - this stores the last few things you type into web pages. If your system crashes or anything else happens before your reply is posted properly, you can recover all your work from Lazarus.

Thanks
But its not worth the hassle. The computer works quite
well elsewhere and with emails so I will leave it alone. Its mainly used for emails and trip planning so I dont really have to have this site.
Cheers

When I load ExplorOz the CPU use goes crazy and it is taking ages to load the
forum index and threads. I can load other sites while waiting. I am running Firefox and all the plugins etc are up to date. I also run Adblock and have the suppress ad box ticked. The only ads I see are the ExplorOz ones.

I've bee trying Google Chrome for a month or so now and have had no problems with EO's site
It has been faster on all my visited sites and it was easy to import everything from IE
Google Chrome is FREE too
