Hi all,I have a 2004 Mazda Bravo 4WD and I want to know the service requirments for front wheel bearings. The sevice hand book is not much help as it says every 40,000 kms except 4WD with ABS.My car dosn't have ABS and it dosn't say anything for 4WD....Has anybody replaced or repacked there bearings....To look at the area they could be a sealed unit, not like Toyota or Nissan......Regards Bravo Man

Hi,
Just did my mates 2000 Bravo 4WD front wheel bearing the other day it’s a very easy job. Just need two buy two new front hub seals. Remove the free wheeling hub assembly by undoing the six small 10mm hex head bolts from the cover and the six allen key type studs. Remove the circlip and slide it off. You will see three Phillips head screws that hold in place a lock tab. Undo them but be careful not to strip them as sometimes they can be very tight. I give them a small tap first to crack the thread. Remove the lock tab and by going anticlockwise unscrew the round lock nut that holds the hub onto the stub axle. Remove the front hub assembly. Outer bearing will pull off at the same time. Remove the hub seal with a screwdriver or lever and out comes the inner bearing. Wash clean and repack bearings and tap in new hub seals seating flush with the hub. Reassemble hub and adjust the wheel bearings using the lock nut and the number of different holes to line up the lock tab and screws. Refit free wheeling hub. You just saved yourself a couple of hundred bucks.

Thanks Squashs for your reply, unfortunately my model is different,I wish it was that easy.My model has auto locking hubs so all you see at the hub is a big lock nut straight onto the front drive shaft,a bit like a front wheel drive car.As this nut is done up very tight it squashes the wheel bearings between the CV joint and the outer hub,so the bearings must be a one piece unit or there is a spacer between the bearings. Thanks for your reply anyway.....Peter
