Good afternoon all,
I have had to replace the exhaust fan impeller in our van. The motor runs anti clockwise & the blades were set on the old impeller in such a way that it did exhaust air from the toot.
All impeller's at our local Jayco spare parts have the blades set in such a way (opposite pitch) that with the motor running anti clockwise they draws fresh air in.
The bloke in the spare parts section reckons all I need do is reverse the polarity on the motor to make it run the opposite way & all will be unky dory.
However I don't want to damage the motor & would like some sort of confirmation that it is OK to simply swap the two wires over going to the motor & that this will change motor direction.
Thanks

Barry
The bloke in the spare parts is correct, just reverse the wires, it won’t damage it, it just spins the other way

I agree, swapping the polarity is no problems.
Motor will run the opposite way
But
Check the curve on the fan blades they are designed to run one way and won't be as effective running backwards.

Thanks Joe & Grumpy Old Fart, I will change the wires over, and you are right "GOF" ref how effective they will be running in opposite direction to the way they were designed to do, because I tried mounting the impeller upside down and whilst it did exhaust air it only did so at about half the velocity when running the other way.
Maybe I will have to only have a half serve of Baked Beans for breakfast to off set the half efficiency of the van. LOL! Thanks for your advise.

Just turn the fan around, if possible. No need to change the polarity

Thanks Ray, but returned the incorrect impeller to Jayco this arvo & they have ordered one for me with the correct blade pitch.
