Hi all, seems a silly question given all the rain we've had this year but...
We often see in magazines & have spoken to people who say they've been on the road for months/years on end & have only stayed at a handful of caravan parks in all that time. We haven't thought to ask but where do they obtain drinking or even shower water from?
We carry roughly 200 litres in the van and generally stop at a park once or twice a week to fill up, do the washing etc. Just curious as to how people manage this.

Thanks

David & Linda

Hi David and Linda,
We stop near a river or such like when camping away from a van park or use our on board supply carefully till we can top up again. I guess that is what most do.

Over the years I have had a drink of water from many sources including bore water which was by far the worst I have ever drunk.

I mainly purify it be boiling it first then sterilizing it with a tea bag. LOL.

I have drunk dam water from various properties on many occasions from Cobar to Kempsey and am none the worse for it.
In fact I would say it is better than Sydney water by a long chalk.

Cheers, Bruce.

Hi David
A lot of the caravan parks have a rainwater tank that you can top up from for drinking. If staying in a park ask if you may fill your tank out of the mains tap they will say yes or no. Hope this helps.

Hi Dave and Linda

We need fuel more often than water, so ask before getting fuel if we can top up the tanks. I have a lengthy reply on where to obtain water, how to use suspect water, and howto economise wheh you can't obtain more water here Collecting water when not staying at caravan parks and when water is short.

All but 1 servo have let us fill our tanks when getting fuel if you fill regularly you dont need a lot of water each time large qty may be a issue as they will no doubt be paying for their water
The one that said no were buying water by the truck load and were running low and their bore was unfit to drink, they did say if i was desperate they would let me have 10 lts to get me to the next stop but they needed it more than me so I declined
Also a lot of local councils will allow you to fill your tanks the most i have been asked for was $2.00
And as above c'van parks, rivers, dams etc remember its always polite to ask if i ran out I would even knock on someones door and ask to fill from their garden tap can only say no
