Hi Guys I've been currently looking for
camp sites around
Newcastle preferably with a beach setting without paying $20+ a night.
So far I have found this Farquhar park on the net which is quite cheap ($11 a night per site) I was just wondering if anyone on here has actually been there and what it is like. As we all know things can look a lot better on paper then in real life.
I have attached a link of place in question
Here

I can tell you a little about the area I have family living at
Manning Point.The access is via
the beach. I would recommend only accessible on low tide the sand does get a bit soft in patches.
The beach is narrow in spots and no place to hide at high tide again in some spots. The
camp spot I haven't been down to in years but believe it is still very basic no facilities their is not a lot of people know about it so doesn't get a lot of people staying their.
Their are two caravan parks at
Manning Point the first one you come to heading into
Manning Point has camping at the back of the park which backs onto
the beach, the front of the park faces the Manning River not certain of costs. The second one also backs onto beach but no camping vans only.
Manning Point has petrol at a price water and basic supplies at the small
shop that sells petrol near
the entrance where you go on to
the beach. You need a permit to travel
the beach which I believe you can buy at
shop or council but would
check first if
shop still sells permits.
Regards
Garry

We are
Manning Point regulars (stay at Weeroona CP since we have dogs) and often take a drive down to Farquhar Park.
As stated, you get there on
the beach. The
Manning Point shop sells the permits but you can probably get them in Old Bar as
well as
Taree. If the southern mouth of the Manning is closed (which it usually is) it is far easier to get to FP from the Old Bar side.
The facilities are your usual National Park basic with cleared sites and non flush
toilets only. There would only be 10-15 site sin there and it does get full in peak periods.
The are is very nice though, you can swim in the river on one side or
the beach on the other.

You know I would have never guessed that the southern side ever closed by looking at google maps, it must have been a very wet July in 2009 as the mouth is about 400m from FP to the sand on old bar side.
If the old bar side is accessible are you able to travel at any time or just low tide?
Also would the campsites fit a decent sized camper trailer.
Thanks, Chris

The river was up and they opened the mouth with an excavator!
Old Bar side would still be best done either side of high tide so you are not on the soft stuff, particularly towing.
Campsite are suitable for CT's
