Anyone have experience/comments about the rest areas north of
Coober Pedy in Camps 5 - Pootnoura, Evelyn Downs,
Mathesons Bore? How far off the Hwy, fire place (not indicated in Camps 5), how busy (we'll be there in late June), etc? Thanks.

We've stayed in a few of the Stuart Hwy overnight stops - quite straight forward - have not seen them crowded yet - most are set back off the road only 20m or so - some have regional interpretive displays - many have an emergency phone - they often have a stock fence round them, usually have a shelter and a non-potable
water tank - toilets are rare. If you know the location, Google Earth can provide a view of sorts.

During June/July/August they are all pretty full at the best of times. Either stop eerly or use one of the rudimentary carvan park facilities at
Cadney Park.
Marla or
Kulgera.

Hi Outbackogre,
A couple we have stayed overnight in, on the left hand side of the highway just south of
Marla, Marryat Creek about 40 odd ks south of the border,
Finke River rest area North of
Erldunda.
Marryat Creek is a good days drive from
Coober Pedy.
Cheers
Baz

Hi Outbackogre
We have stay in the Pootnoura wayside stop a couple of years back. The time of the year was July and there was only one other vehicle in the
parking area. It was about 300 - 400 metres from the main highway, right hand side heading north, or left hand side heading south. Very east to locate, signposted and very large tower there.
The biggest surprise to us was the night traffic. We expected the road to be busy all night, but there would have been less than 5 truck that went past during the night. There was a fire place there, but no timber, so you would have to bring it in if you wanted a fire.
I hope this is of some help.
Cheers
Stephen
