I have the following problem with my patrol and really appreciate if any body has had a similar problem or knows somebody who might have had this problem.

The car is hard to start when the motor is hot when left for 10 to 20 minutes before restarting. The car starts first kick when cold.

I bough the car second hand not long ago, and have since had the injecters serviced and a full tune, and the injectors were replaced under warranty. It used to start better than it is starting now. The car has 140000km on the clock at the moment. Otherwise the car goes well, with the exception of the above.

There was a posting by Peter (Post ID 6008) with the same problem amongst others, I currently have to do what was suggested, i.e. waiting for ever (it seems) for the glow plugs to warm up.

Any comment would be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou in advance,

Luigi.
If you want help to diagnose you problem you will have to give more information, is the motor turning over on the starter ok? when it does start is it blowing black or white smoke? when you say hot do you mean warm or normal operating temp? Eric.

Sorry about that. Yes the motor turns over on the starter O.K. And depending on how long it takes to eventually kick over The smoke varies from a little bit of greyish smoke to a lot if it takes a long time to start. Yes when it has reached normal operating Temp.
Thanks Eric

Dont worry about going any further in diagnisis mate , The problem is your timing pump . Very Very common on the 2.8 , in the morning it will start like a jem , run it for a while and you can crank till your hearts content, Might start if your lucky , with a big puff of smoke ,. sound familiar ? I think the reco cost is between $1500 and $2000 Venus Bay

I hope its not that. The car is still under an extended warranty, I suppose my problem if this is the case is to convince then and get them to fix it.

I'd be happy if it was a $1500 pump over an engine rebuild.

if your in Melbourne goto BJ Diesel.. Clinton there is GOOD.. he will tell you.

if its under extended warranty, you have no problems.. But read the fine print..

Thanks Guys

I'm in sydney, we will see how cooperative the dealer is. I also would prepare to pay for a pump rebuild over an engine rebuild, but seeing its under warranty I rather not pay anything, they get enough out of me from the serviceing.

Thanks again for your help.
