Hi I'm thinking of getting something to on holiday with 5 people kids are under the age on 6 what would be better to get if I had about $6000 to spend.
I have 2 cars a 96 2.4
Tarago that can only tow 1000kg and a TJ 3.5 Magna Wagon 1500kg.
Good thing about a camper trailer I could use the
Tarago to tow as this is the car we use for the kids most of the time I dont want to travel to far at this stage Like Victor Harbour Im in Woodcroft S.A so I could take 2 cars if I needed the
Tarago, Camper trailers seem like the same price as an older 14-16 ft Caravan.
I only just started looking on Ebay at prices
If I got a Caravan I would use a Tent as
well as I have a 4-5 person one as 5 would not fit in a small caravan can you do this with most caravan
places?
Any help would be great

You can get a brand new on road camper trailer for under $6000 so this may be the way for you. A small caravan would probably still be harder to tow then a camper trailer plus you probably won't all fit in it.
heres one i found doing a quick google search
camper trailer
Have you thought about hiring a camper trailer to
test if its suitable for your family?

I agree, hire before you buy.
I hired for a long time and then bought a 10 year old Jayco offroad in excellent condition.
--I had time to look around,--knew exactly what I wanted,--then when I saw the add, waited and watched it, then made an offer and got an excellent buy.
Good luck
JS.

Hi Shannon, as a mother of 5 kids who have done a lot of travelling both in a caravan and a camper trailer I would suggest you get a caravan with a triple bunk and forget about taking a tent. There are caravans for sale in every price bracket so take your time about finding the right one.

Hi Shannon
At your target price, i suggest a camper trailer - one that folds out to make plenty of family room. If getting a camper trailer, make sure that it is easy to set up and fold down.
A caravan at that price, with room for a family, and light enough for your tow vehicle may be relegated to "about to fall to bits and suitable for on site only". Having a caravan to avoid wet canvas and hassles of setting up camper would be negated by getting a small caravan and still needing a tent.
As said above, try before you buy.

As said you could hire a camper trailer to see if you really like it. In your price range, you can get a Tourlite which is essentially a european made box trailer with an Oztrail tent on it. We bought one just recently and for our purposes its great, does what we want it to do and we don't have a 4x4 so didnt need the heavy duty chassis and
suspension for off road use etc. Empty trailer weight is about 270kg or so loaded up it should still come in under the max towing capacity of your
Tarago. We picked up ours 2nd hand for $4,250 and new I think they are $5,500 or thereabouts.

We used to have use of a jayco finch which was very similar. They are pretty good. We have 2 kids and slept 1 adult 1 kid on the bed ends. A 3rd kid could sleep on the sofa. The ad mentions it sleeps 7 but that would be a real squeeze.
I think that dove looks ok but i'm not sure if the price is ok. its worth a look anyway.

For Tents those single pole (pyramid looking) touring tents are brilliant, take next to no time to put up, we have an Outdoor Connection Cooper and it could fit four of us in there easy.
I would highly recommend something like that if you're going to get a camper trailer or caravan and then set up a tent as
well. Besides when you have a van / trailer the weight / size of the tent won't be an issue (it weighs 20kg so not light).
Caravan vs Camper is pretty much outside cooking vs inside cooking. Even though campers have huge awnings it can still be a bit squeezy under there for 4 or 5 people if the weather is bad, but likewise in a caravan.
I would tend to agree though, for $6k you can probably get a better camper trailer than you could a caravan.
