Permits for Northern Territory Feedback

Docker River camp site. This has been open for some years. When initially openned it was well set up with toilet facilities and solar powered bore supplying the water. Last March 2010 when i last went through there it was a disgrace. solar pump was turned off even though it did work when I turned it on. The tank servicing the toilets and taps was empty and the toilets full of paper and rubbish. The entry booth and fee box was ripped from the wall. All in all not a pretty site but still a well laid out camp ground under shady trees. Be warned.

This has been a common problem. We were warned when heading that way in 2008. Pity, the location is lovely. As it was, we had time to get to Warakurna so didn't need to stop there, although would have (and used our on board facilities) if it was getting late in the day.

Hi David

Yes it has been like that for a good few years now, which is a real pity. There is a very good saying which applies to this site....location, location.

Someone with some foresight and the ability to lease the area from the local Community, someone could make this one of the top camping locations on the Great Central.

Here are some pictures to rekindle you memory.

Cheers

Stephen

This site and its amenities were great in 2006 and yet by 2007 they were in disrepair. On our last visit we spent some time speaking with the community administrator who voiced his clear frustration at the local communities inability or lack of willingness to engage in revenue generating (self help) programs. The site had been created under the enthusiasm of previous managers with government money. The community members were paid to help in its construction. In 2007 there was no one prepared to do any work in it's upkeep within the Docker community. The locals, taking short cuts, drove their vehicles over septic systems collapsing them, the bore was let go, firepits not emptied etc. The administrator called in to drop off some timber and told us not to worry about the camp fee as there wasn't much of a service provided. We cleaned out a few fire pits for him instead. A very disappointed man

Disappointing but a far to typical story.
