*2.7 TD out of the superseded Land Rover Discovery

*440nm at 1900RPM

*2700kg towing capacity (diesel only)

*6 speed auto

OK its no bushie being an AWD SUV, but shouldn't be too bad a package with that diesel donk in it??

Still only a one piece 3rd row seat that doesn't give you the option to have 6 seats. It's either 5 or 7.

By far the most annoying characteristic of the Territory.

Yes I would have thought Ford would have listened to their customer feedback (because they bang on about it a fair bit) and made the 3rd row split. It shouldnt have been that hard to do.

Diesel is the same as the current base model Discovery - not as yet superceded.

It always puzzled me why Ford never released the Exploder with a diesel motor!!

Have you driven an Explorer compared with a Territory? Theres no comparison. The Explorer is heavy, thirsty handles like a sponge and is a piece of crap....

The North Americans haven't discovered diesel yet. Even Landcruisers are only available with petrol motors there.

Hi Bonz & Phil G, Yes I have driven Explorers & yes they are heavy & fuel guzzlers. But that was not the point I was trying to make. Ford for a long time have been holding hands with Mazda the latter make diesels engines...it would (to me anyway) seem appropriate to boost sales for the Explorer (when first released) that a diesel was an option just like the mighty Nissan & Toyota products. Phil, I am sure I have read stories on diesel powered vehicles in the USA....Ford 250...350...Chevies....Peterbuilt..yep I reckon Nth America are well ahead of Aussie when it comes to diesel!!

Those are their really big vehicles.
The following site lists what diesel vehicles are available in the US, and if it wasn't for VW, there would be very little:

Ford stopped importing the Exploder when they started making the Territory here. The Explorer was not available with a diesel, only V6 and V8 and I couldnt see Ford Australia stuffing around trying to homologate a diesel Explorer on their own for our piddly little market when it wasn't supported by head office and they had their own home grown vehicle in the pipeline (just that the diesel Territory was horribly delayed it was originally supposed to be here in 2006-2007).

Ford divested its majority stake in Mazda however up to a point continued to own Jaguar-Land Rover and so was able to source those premium JLR motors internally.
