My son has purchased a roof top camper like the ironman ones but cheaper and we wondered if anyone has one and made a demountable frame for it.

My son has an extra cab ute so he wants to make a metal pipe frame work to mount the roof topper.

Just wondering if anyone has a photo or such of a demountable frame.

Cheers

David

I've gone with this option:

Got it through Opposite Lock - works a treat, and keeps the overall height down.

I am in the process (the steel is on the driveway marked out to be cut) to have a frame to lift it off the roof of my prado when not in use. Is that the frame you mean or is to mount it to the dual cab?

Well yes sort of. He wants a frame so he can set it up independent of the car when staying at one spot for more than a few days. Of course the frame would probably be as tall as the camper normally sits on the car. So it might need extend-able legs or something.

Be nice to afford a demountable tray camper but he is only an apprentice so cannot afford much. (also not a member on exploroz so I am doing the question asking for him).

Just hoping someone might have done something similar before. Have some photos.
If not we will push on with a home made design and see what we get.

Cheers
