G'day all, this is my first thread and I'm starting with a doozie. HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP !!!!! I have just forked out some pretty big bucks for a second hand 07 Diesel Prado and was in the process of arranging to have a 9000lb Warn winch fitted in behind the factory alloy bullbar. After contacting Toyota in both Australia and Japan, the dealership has been told that the winch fitting kit is no longer available for that model. About a thousand phone calls later, I can still find nobody that does an after market fitting kit. Some thing to do with air bag compliance and engineers not wanting to be sued by my wife when I crash and the air bags fail to deploy. The Prado is a pretty popular model with a good off road capability, I was hoping that someone else on this site has come across this problem previously, and more importantly... come across a solution to it. Replacing the whole bullbar is not an option as the purchase of the car has left me nothing in the kitty. Once again... HELP! I am desperate and I am running out of excuses for the Minister for War and Finance (AKA wife) as to why I spent all that money on a vehicle which won't do what it was purchased to do.

Looks like your option are limited.
1) take pictures of a bullbar with the winch mounted and get a fab
shop to build the cradle. Then fit yourself.
2) Buy a complient bar.
Be mindful in regards to point one. If it is dangerous and may have a adverse affect in a accident can you live with the outcome. In the big picture a new bar is worth less than a family member.
Cheers
Craig

I find Toyota's response interesting. In January this year had my 09 V6 Prado in a dealership to have the alloy bull bar mounting brackets replaced because of the recall on them. While they had it, I arranged for them to fit the new winch mounting cradle. They had them then?

Yeah apparently there were changes after the 07 model (120 series). Newer models should still be fine.

Hi James
I have a 2002 95 series with a 9000lbs warn winch and factory alloy bar, and at that time could buy the necessary gear that was air bag compliant from Toyota and ARB and plenty of others I ended up with one from ARB.

I have an 07 Prado diesel with factory alloy bar and winch fitted, though it is an X9 Superwinch as supplied by Toyota on delivery. Recently (4weeks ago) had the bullbar mount recall done which INCLUDED a new cradle for the winch.
I wonder whether it is a Warn Winch thing rather than a Toyota thing?
My Superwinch has been used plenty of times as I tow and launch a heavy boat into
places that it shouldn't be able to for work. It has performed
well for 4 years but did have the control box thing replaced once (under warranty) due to corrosion around the wiring.
Maybe worth querying another brand of winch?

James,
Try part number PZQ29 602WC, that's the winch bracket listed for the bullbar recall. Toyota RRP $201.30
That should keep the minister happy. (Thats what we're here for)

James,
Same dilemma here
New baby (ex gov 06/08 D4D) turning up in a few days.
Dont know if it has had the bar mount upgrade until it turns up.
Picture shows hole in bar (behind number plate area?) but no signs of a bracket. ($39k and I havent even touched it - no one who knows me would beleive that)
Dont know yet if mount mods have been done.
Want to get a winch asap but cant afford to replace bar. Will be onto Pt
Augusta Toyota first thing to see if they have the cradle.
Thanks to the other posters.
Sounds like they should if it is part of the mount upgrade, if they were fitted as original accessory
You call her "Minister for War and Finance " you are lucky...
mine works in a bank and knows my pin number.....
Let us know if you are succesful.
