Prospecting with a metal detector.

Good Afternoon all,
About 4 years ago i went prospecting with our 4wd club near Sandstone and i realy
enjoyed it.This easter i am going to hire another detector and have another go
around Que or Sandstone area.I have no experience at all apart from my one trip
and would like any advise from members who have done a bit of prospecting. If i
like it enough this time the plan is to buy a detector and make several trips into
the goldfields when ever i can.So any advice would be very welcome.

I have absolutely no experience with prospecting with a metal detector, but just to whet your appetite. A bloke who I knew a few years ago came into my shop, he had been somewhere up in the Kimberley I think, and he had three of those bags you get coin in from the bank - they were full of nuggets. He was flogging the larger nuggets illegally, to asian jewelers here in Brisbane and having the smaller ones set as necklace "droplets". Not saying for a moment you should go down this illegal line. But good luck none the less

Hi Dennis, my husband does a bit of detecting every year. He has his own detector, a Minelab 4000. You need a West Australian Miners Right. You cannot detect legally without it. Many detectorists can be a secretive, peculiar lot. Very few will give you any advice on where to go to find gold. We have detected around Cue, Sandstone, Coolgardie, Mt Magnet, Leonora and Laverton. We have seen some magnificent finds but have yet to score a big one ourselves. If you would like to send us your email address, my hubby would be happy to give you more details about different aspects of detecting.

Good afternoon Dennis,
If you care to follow this link you will find it an invaluable source of information. And all I ask in return is that you send me half of any nuggets you find.
Yours tropically, Harry
