Can anyone please give me a guide if we were to do some
free camping, how many hours would a 186 litre Dometic fridge run on 4kg of gas on the lowest fridge setting?

Depends on were you want to go and were are you.
Ask me next week when I get my new crystal ball, I'll be able to narrow it down for you. Just a tad more info will help.
A 90 lt 3 way will use about 360 odd grams of gas in a 24 hour period.

Yeah it does.
Cause I'm on the East caost and if you were near I could give you a list of some around here, but you being over there I'm sorry i can't help.
Someone will be able to point you in the right direction.
Do you have a fan fitted to the rear of the fridge? cause this will help with blowing the hot air of the fins at the back. If you can shade that area of the van with shade cloth or something similar it will also help.
And make sure it is dead level in both directions.
These things sure help it run better.

Hi Jon,
We have a fan fitted to the rear of the fridge, we've also had the cabling upgraded to thicker stuff - we've even got some shade cloth too. So we're trying to do all the right things. Thanks for the tip about ensuring it's level.
Thanks again.

Being out of level is their biggest enemy.
On our Swan I have two levels fixed to the outside, one above the door and the other on the front just under the roff section. I get it within the marks on both, wind the top up, set it all up then I use a 6" level to
check the fridge and make fine adjustments to get it as close as I can to level.
Have a look at the bottom of this page,
Three Way Fridge Ventilation Upgrade they have put a fan inside the fridge as
well to help.
Another thing, some people have said they have found mud wasp's nest of late in the chimney/exhaust of their their fridges,
check to see if they haven't built a nest in yours.

I have fitted a fan in my 3way. Just a normal 4" fan to the top grill but I have blocked the rest of the grill up so that the fan is the only exit for hot air but I have installed baffles all around the top evaporator. It works great. no themometer, no resister and the fan is held in position with bolts not cable tires.

Hi,
I have a 40L portable Dometic that will run on a low setting in temps around 30'C for nearly two weeks on 4 kg bottle.
I did the
test a few months ago so the memory is fading but it was close to this. I have not tested the 90L caravan fridge on a complete gas bottle but maybe you can extrapolate.

We have a 90 litre Dometic which runs off of a 9 kg gas cylinder - run in the WA - northwest (Wittenoon way) we get around 3 weeks which includes running the oven regularly for the cakes and running the stove-top every night for dinner and daytimes for cuppas. Our fridge is set between 3 and 4 setting just above the freeze the lettuce setting! Tip in the real heat is to cover the side of the van with the fridge with some shade cloth strung up from somewhere.
cheers
Sue

Thank you to everyone for your replies. We did some
free camping for the past three days, and although hot with no shade (around 37 degrees daily), the fridge worked fine. Didn't put it on the coldest setting, but it did the job.
Thanks again.
