Hi, I got made redundant and have 5 weeks to go any where! starting on the 1st of April, wife and I don't have a lot of time to prepare,
As everywhere is wet at the moment, thought people could throw some ideas at us, going to take off road camper and quad bike.

Hi Dean

Don't know where you are starting from - but you could spend that time free camping and riding in Vic Desserts as per a post I put here last tuesday.

The post was 85015 - but concentrated on fuel test.

The general area has more sand tracks than Simpson and has a special map called Victorian desserts - in Vic we have a bush bike registration called recreational registration - don't know NSW equivalent, butadvisable to have.

Lots of info about the area which is bounded on its western edge by vic sa border.

If you decide on this area we can supply data on good free camps etc.

We used the area as a test drive for our recent trail bike crossing of Simpson.

My bike and car but not my broken wrist.

I've done the Simpson desert and loved it! do you think it will be in flood? That could be funny if we got stuck! I cant remember if you can tow a trailer on it.

Dean,

A firm believer in the maxim that “Time spent by the Cooper Creek is not deducted from ones life span.” It’s a great spot and will be an amazing spot with full flow at the moment. Also second Robins suggestion on the Victorian Deserts. Spent a good deal of time out that way in my youth and it offers an amazing variety of terrain. You are also close to the Murray so can pop into the Kulkyne State Forrest and some excellent camps along the river.

You can’t get Recreation Reg on the Quads in Victoria unfortunately. Quads are a bit of an anomaly in most states vehicle licensing regimes. There are limited agricultural registrations for primary production and special purpose dispensations for “specific purpose” (like a sprayer unit for a shire council) but other than that, they are a private property rig only. This means that used in state reserves/parks, you’d get pinged for unregistered (if caught that is). Sad but true.

whereever you end up, enjoy.

Mick

Ha ha Mick.

While John King and I would definitely agree with you. Burke, Wills and Charles Gray might take issue with a statement like that.

Agreed, every Australian should spend some time along Cooper Creek. Large chunks of Australia's history abound.

Go across the Nullabor and enjoy Perth and south of Perth. Make sure you go to Rottnest Island whilst there.

Dean there are no cars permitted on Rottnest Island so you hire bikes and ride around it - absolutely fantastic! Also make sure you spend a couple of nights there. This was one of the best places we have ever stayed and we have travelled all over Australia with our kids.

Then Tassie it is!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Go now before it gets too cold down that way.

I could fill a whole year in Tassie.

At least most of the roads will be open, unlike NSW, SA, Qld & NT

Cheers Colin.
