Some of you may have just noticed a new Search function - available in the
forum. I got distracted today from doing Blog and
Site Search and wrote a new Name search in the
forum instead.
There is an autocomplete on the name selection so just type part of the name of the person you are after and auto complete will help. Once you have the name in Press Go and you will get all threads created by the ScreenName you enter.
Enjoy and
Feedback as required

You have to type it in the "screename" search box. I just tried it and a whole heap of ian's came up.

Nope. Type in Ian and only one ian comes up. Not me. Lots of Brians and other names with "ian" in them. I mean that the Autocomplete is not working.
To get Ianw I have to type in the whole word.
The Autocomplete only seems to list names starting with a or b or c with the letters ian in them,.

Ian,
Yes your name creates an interesting situation. I made the auto complete have wild cards from and back so a search for ian is a *ian* search with results returned in
alpha order so brian matches in this case. I could change the auto complete to be suffix wild only so ian* would not match brian however David would not match ExplorOz David or Member David or other. I can try to force the results to via a search order without the wild card but not sure if this will work. I will see what I can come up with.
I do not want to make it only suffix wild if I can avoid it. Unless the general consensus is suffix only wild is fine.

It only lists a certain number of names. Ian doesnt even make the list.
Another thing is that I used to be able to do the same thing (search for names) in the text search box. Doesnt work now.

Ian,
Yes this is why a suffix only wild would fix it but I will see if I can come up with something better.
Correct I have rationalised the search systems for accuracy and performance and names are not embedded in the free text results hence the reason name search has been added.

Thanks David, i like the idea of name search. What happened to date range? This helped when knowing for example what year the sought thread was in, rather than going through pages of options to find the right time frame.
