Hey Guys,
Just a quick query about contents insurance? Does anyone know any insurer that insures
portable fridges like engel etc as part of their portable contents insurance?

I have
mine on my NRMA
Home contents insurance as a specified portable, along with camera gear etc. I have never claimed so no idea if it actually works, but the call center person knew what I was talking about, and I am paying a premium for it, so as far as I am concerned its covered.

It is called 'Personal Effects' - the premium is about 2.5% of the value of the insured items.

On
my home contents policy (SGIO) I have my larger value items (DSLR camera, engels, Honda eu2 etc...) as specified portable valuables plus a blanket $3,000 unspecified portable valuables for kayaks, bikes, fishing rods etc. The max value for unspecified items is $600, after that you need to use specified. Excess is $200 per event ie. if everything was taken in one theft, then only a total excess of $200, not an excess on every item.
It works out at around $27 per $1,000 insured for specified items and IMHO is good value for those items that can easily "walk". Have used this policy for many years but have yet to make a claim. If my previous experinces with SGIO are anything to go by, all will be good if I ever have to make a claim.
Cheers

I have the same deal with SGIO for Engels and Solar panels – just included the Kayak at $24 per $1000.
They made specific note that a sporting item is not covered if it was damaged whilst in use ie in the event a croc takes a bite out of it whilst I’m paddling up
the lagoon.
