I will be travelling to
Melbourne early on Monday Morning from Gosford on our way to Tasmania. We will be boarding the Spirit Of Tasmania on Tuesday afternoon.
I would like to know if anyone could reccomend a reasonable
campsite within an hour or two from
Melbourne where we could spend Monday night.
We will be travelling down the Hume Highway.
We are self sufficient and don't really require any facilities.
Thanks in advance
Chris.

Mate why dont you get an early start tueday morning and save the hassle. We leave
Bathurst at 6am,, have breky in Cowra, morning tea in
Holbrook and are still in Melboune about 3pm. While it is a long way it is a fast run on the hume. Just stay on 110 once in Vic. If you leave at 5am you should be their by 6pm. Or if you want to break it up their are some great camping spots on Blowering
dam . Which is about half way for you. About 5 to 6 hours from their to
Melbourne.
Good luck Chris .
Cheers Pete

Hey Cobes,
On approaching the outskirts of
Melbourne you will come across a couple of truck stops, one quite large one, sort of near the Wallan area. There are usually trucks etc there so it's reasonably safe and maintained.
Enjoy your trip,
DAN

Drive into wangaratta, off the Hume Freeway. Stop at the
Information centre on the left just past the river and roundabout. Ask for directions to
Wenhams Camp. Its in the Warby-Ovens N.P. It's about 20Km from the town, in the Warby Ranges. Its free!!!
From there, its 3hrs on the Hume to the Dock Via the Western Ring Rd and the Westgate
Bridge.

Chris, this gets asked regularly on here, and people who have prior experience are only too happy to pass on their tip.
I can't recall anyone who has asked the question, giving some
feedback on what they decided to do or which advice they decided to take, once they have done it.
Do the site a favour, and let us know what you did, and any advice you might want to pass on.
That's what this site is all about, sharing information, and your
feedback will help.
Have a wonderful trip overseas :~)
Fred.
