Hello, need your expert help !! We are new to this and have been travelling now for 2 months - we have come from Victoria and have nearly completed all of South Australia -the coastal areas that is. We are currently in Ceduna and we cant decide wether to go back to Port Augusta and then up to Coober Pedy / Alice Springs and then back down and head on over to Perth and go up all the way to Broom (be there about June) and then up to Darwin in July and across to Cape York and then down to Townsville and follow the coast all the way back down to Victoria???? We want to follow the sun - havent had much of that the last 2 months - just lots of windy days. We are debating going perth way now or heading back across to Canberra and then up the coast and back around oz.... Which way should we go - love to hear from anybody that has been there and done it. We are travelling in a 25ft van with a 2 and a 4 year old- we have to be home on dec 1st. Thanks heaps

Hi Anna

If you want to follow the sun, come to SW of WA now. Getting into the northern part of the state May June should get you there in the optimum climate. Spent as much time as you need seeing the wonders of our NW, and of the NT. It will most likely be late in the season and getting to hot for the Cape, and you will want to head to cooler latitudes.

You have a big ask in some ways as you want to see everything ... as you are at Ceduna go accross and follow the coast up to Broome but i dont know..
If it was me i would head up to Alice and Darwin and stop where you want on the way, the wet seems to have broken and it is sooooo green at the moment, in Darwin you will find all the waterfalls and billabongs will be full and what a sight it is, from now to June it get cooler and that is the best time to be there ... but that is me and i was born down south and have done Perth/Broome ect...
You must be sick of the cold by now, come and enjoy some of our heat ....

Hi Anna,

You have seen quite a bit of the coast - maybe its time to try something completely different by going up the centre. Around Alice it should be cooling down a bit now. Also it will all be wonderfully green now and there is so much to see and do there, you could spend a few weeks around there (have a look at our blogs for more info) then head up to Darwin then do the western loop down the WA coast with a few detours inland. If you have time left do some of the east coast, but as it is closer to home it is easier to do that in smaller chunks later on. Whatever you do you wont see it all, so dont worry to much about not fitting it all in. It will still be there for later trips. You will be amazed at the different things the interior of the country has to offer.

Cheers,

Val.

If you want to experience the wonders of the WA Wildflower season, then August/Sept is the time to do the west coast.

We went the anti clockwise direction first time round Aus, and clockwise the next.

So I guess the important thing is to decide if you want to time your trip to be in broome around July (Later in July Broome starts to slack off a bit so easier to find a free van site) and then head down the west coast in Aug/sept.

Anyhow whatever way you go it is a great experience and if you are like most of us, you'll want to do it again so you can go the opposite way next time.
