Googs track closed??

Under the Check Road conditions (under trecks) on ExploreOz, I find the notification that GoogTrack is closed.

A phone call this morning to the Ceduna Visitors centre , where we are told to purchase the camping permit to travel and camp on Googs track , has informed me that the Googs track is open, it has not been closed, and they cannot remember it ever being closed.

Anyone know what the real situation is ? We are delaying our departure from Perth until we know we can get through Googs and up to Lake Eyre. I have tried SA department for Environment and Heritage and their 1800 road condition / closure number and there is no recorded info on Googs Track. The main authority (it seems) on the web is ExploreOz and as said earlier it says Googs is closed.

Hi Steve

I have just checked out the Transport SA website, details just below:

http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/quicklinks/northern_roads/area3.asp

and the only road that may effect you is the road between Kingoonya and Glendambo, which if you open the link is closed. The only way to get through is to head due north of Kingoonya and head for the Stuart Highway that way. If you have spoken to the Ceduna VIC, take their word as factual, as they are in regular contact with the Dept. Environment and Heritage (National Parks) and if it was closed it is in their interest of notify the general public.

The only other option is to give the DEH a call at Ceduna: 08-8625 3144, as this land comes under their control.

Have a great trip.

Cheers

Stephen

Steve,
I agree with Stephen - its been called "closed" because of flooding between Kingoonya and Glendambo.Googs track will be fine. All the other roads in the area are well maintained and I expect will be dry by the time you travel them.

The last rain was on the 19th March and the forecasts are good for at least the next 7 days.

Cheers
