VLC media player question

I'm having problems with my new laptop (windows 7) and the windows media player. It won't fast forward more than about X4 and even with the volume on full, it is barely a whisper.

Somebody suggested VLC media player is a lot better and free so I attempted to download same only to be instructed to SMS for a 'code' which will cost a total of $8.

I don't mind paying the $8 if VLC is as good as they claim and the site can be trusted; it would be too late to complain if several weeks later a huge SMS fee appeared on my phone bill.

Has anyone had experience with the videoLAN Organisation who provide this software?

Thanks,
Sheps.

G'day Allan,

Year it downloaded VLC without $ request, but doesn't work.

'Your input can't be opened' comes up when attempting to play a DVD.

I can play the same DVD on WMP, but same problems as previously reported

Cheers,
Sheps

I have used VLC on my last 5 laptops (4 yrs) all with no issue. Last week I was given a small 10" running Windows 7 Starter, to try out when travelling. I am having the same issue with the sound. I have all the usual function but can just hear the talking on any move. When I use the same movie on a on my other laptop running Windows 7 Pro it is fine. Dare say some time on Goggle is required to source a fix.. As for paying for VLC, always free and plays everything.

Good luck
Craig

Thanks for that Craig, maybe it is my operating system after all; XP on my old laptop never gave me any trouble.

Another thing to check: Windows has a habit of using Microsoft drivers by default, for everything. 7 is particularly bad for this as a lot of manufactures haven't written proper drivers. These drivers are OK in most situations but are not usually the best you can get.

See if you can download a manufactures sound driver and use that instead of the Miscosoft one.

Windows Media vs VLC won't change your volume. VLC is free and its advantage is that it will play just about anything vs WMP playing common formats. FREE..!

Sounds like it would be great if I could get it to work.
Thanks,

Hi all,

Run this ac3filter software along with VLC to fix any sound issues.
