Like the title says, does anyone know how to clean the black spots (I can only assume they are either mould or algae as they didn't move when the jerrycan was shaken) from the bottom of the yellow diesel jerrycans. I tried a bit of petrol but that hasn't worked, so I thought I would ask the wise people of this forum before attacking it with something else.

Cheers

My suggestion would be to throw the Jerrycan away, what you have is Diesel Mould and you will never completly remove it, cheeper to get a new jerry.

I hope you don't believe what you posted.
We have jet fuel bladders for our helicopters that suffer the same issues. We wash with detergent and use White King bleach to sterilize.

wash the jerry can with dish washing detergent, flush out with clean water. Let stand with White King regular bleach for 6 hours. Use 100ml bleach to 2l water.

Well, this method of cleaning with detergent then bleach seems to work as it is nearly all gone. I am going to leave it overnight to see if all the mould/algae will go and then flush it out and let it dry.

Thanks Paul.

Thanks for the replies guy's. I will have a crack at cleaning them with the detergent and bleach and see how it goes.

Sorry about the lateness of the reply it's just that today had been rather hectic and I have only just got onto the computer.

Cheers
