I have been given some extractors and a complete exhaust that appears to fit my 1 HZ powered cruiser, all in good condition
I was after some opinions on whether or not was it worth the effort done by those who have installed extractors, I not expecting huge gains I wasn't looking for them, It hasn't cost me anything, but a couple of more horses wouldn't go astray ..
Worth the effort, or take them to
the tip??

Extractors on a 1HZ don't make as big a difference as on some other engines particually petrols. 15% or 1/2 a gear improvement would be wishfull thinking at best unless the pump was screwed up. Need to ensure that the flexable joint just under the floor below the drivers feet is kept to avoid cracking the exhaust. Any free flowing exhaust will be louder & the drone under full load can be annoying especially for base model Cruisers with little sound deadening or if driving with the window open.
Worth it? Probably seeing you have the extracors for free as long as a slight increase in noise is acceptable. For me I didn't bother with extractors on either of my 1hz cruisers although I did fit a set to my 2H Troopy which worked exceptionally
well.

Thanks Craig,
I'm wondering why you feel that there was no point to fitting extractors to your 1 HZ's, but then state that extractors worked exceptional
well on a 2H.
Thanks again for tip about the flex pipe.

Hi all,
I put extractors and a free flow exhaust on my 1 HZ 80 series, and got about half a gear extra out of the motor. l could tell the difference we turning at lights and then have to go up a
hill, the difference was very noticeable.
I had the 80 for 18 years and the flex joint never failed or gave problems. If it makes any difference
mine were Genie extractors.
Putting them on was one of the best things I ever did to my 80 series. They may not be that good on other motors but definitely were on the 1 HZ.
cheers

Shane as I said extractors don't always make the same improvement to all engines. The 2H averaged 2MPG better econemy & improved top speed by approx 10 to 15 kph after fitting whereby the experience for many (Like Nick & Des below) is that gain is not typical on the 1HZ. I'm yet to hear of anyone who has achieved a 15% improvement measured on a dyno by just adding extractors & a bigger exhaust. Do some before & after testing & post up the results. Would be interested to hear your final difference.

Shane, I have a 1HZ in my troopie 2000 model. I had fitted extractors and a thru-flo muffler and noticed a marked improvement The troopiewent from 14 l/100 km to 12 and went up hills far quicker let me explain. If I could go up a particular
hill at say 60 in 4th gear with the extractors the same
hill I could do in 5th gear at 66 I could not believe it and tested it many times with the same result. However I believe that different results can happen depending on your engine even if they are the same. My system was installed by a
well respected old bloke who tuned exhausts for race cars nad I'm not talking about your average rev-head 4cylinder rice burners taht have those rediculis huge mufflers hanging out the back of them. I talking Real Circuit Racing cars.
