Is anyone able to comment first hand on the current state of the Stuart Hwy? We were going to tow the van to Alice from Darwin for Easter, but i have heard the highway is pretty bad and am having 2nd thoughts.
A truckie came into work today and said that he got 2 flats in 10ks.
Cheers
Clint

I will ask him how the road is but he drives an old hilux & bad roads don't phase him. But they do annoy me.

Hi Clint and Chell

I just drove up from Melbourne and arrived in Darwin Wednesday arvo in a road train. Road is pretty bad in places, lot's of big pot holes and a couple of gravel patches. Lot's of road crews patching it up and 60klm speed limits. With this rain if it travels south it will only get worse! Also the dragon fly's are in plague proportions, much like the locusts down south. You will also cop plenty of stone damage.
Travel safe and allow a bit more time. I'm heading back to Alice Monday.

cheers

jay

Just arrived at Mataranka today. Left Alice Springs Wednesday. There are a few potholes but other than that the road is fine, only one short patch of gravel, nothing to worry about. Can't speak for north of Mataranka yet, going to Katherine tomorrow.

Entering Adelaide River at the Dorat Rd T/o just South of the bridge is very badly cut up on the North bound side , and the Hwy through town is getting worse, Adelaide River to Outer Darwin has some very severe potholes ....like swiss cheese. but with common sense and travelling to the conditions they can be avoided.
